Picked her up - she rides soooo much better, but the butt gauge only remembers back to when I had bent rims so thats not saying much. Aesthetics are much improved. Turn in and responsiveness on some mild street corners feels improved with less understeer but will need a clearer road or a track day to know for sure. I will post some pictures later this weekend.
At first inspection, there is no rubbing on normal operation and lock to lock. I could see there being rubbing though under load at certain points of the wheel articulation. I need to get a buddy help with operating the wheel while I put some load on. I have never gone aftermarket with wheels before but I have modified wheel setups. On my SUV with all terrain tires, its clear when there is rubbing because of the crazy loud flapping noise! I will search through the mounds of wheel fitment pages later this weekend, but it doesn't look like the plastic fender lip will cause issue and its potentially more of the rear wheel well form that the tire could hit. Anyone have any experience correcting this with out it looking like its been Jack'ed? |

265's, wanted to see how a close to square setup felt like. Thus far they are awesome, haven't felt or heard any rubbing yet and have been bumping around corners with them thus far around town. Suppose to rain this weekend so not sure how much I will be able to inspect for rubbing when loaded.. Does that sound funny to anyone? It felt odd typing it... Ha, oh well, will post a pic or 2 I snapped later tonight

well, that's why i am trying to figure out, if i can fit 225 45 to the front on 19"s, where they should be 225 35 originally, so it can bounce better without rubbing , and the same for back, putting 255 45, instead of 255 30, which is ridiculously low. this is a diesel, it's not a track car and never will be, don't understand why they put such a low profiles on these...and i don't understand why people here are talking about the width of the tire instead of height and then complaining about bad comfort and frequent damage of tires and wheels (that i am suffering too), so i would focus more on the height instead....

If you want to go with significantly larger sidewall tires you should be looking at downsizing to 17" or even 16" wheels. FYI the OEM wheels were never 19", if you go with a 255/45 R19 in the back thats going to be almost 3" taller than the stock tire. You need something like a 255/40 R17. |

Yea I agree with hooper. What happened to me is very unusual, especially being all 4 wheels. I know I could have downsized the rim and gotten a meatier tire for protection and ride quality, but I prefer performance and handling. The reason I love the D is that is so well rounded between pefromnce comfort and efficiency. If I want something that can hit pot holes and be fine I drive my suv. I think the D is closer to a sports car than it is a comfortable luxury ride. If I wanted to maximize ride quality and efficiency, I would own a Lexus ES hybrid.
Regardless, everyone can mod the way they want. I am going to test this setup at a local scca track to see how it feels, would like to get rid of the third car that is nearly exclusive to the track and buy a boat, I know this won't be able to provide the same performance at the extreme, but if I get 90% of the enjoyment, I would rather trade the other car and 10% for a boat! Either way, still no rubbing felt or heard on the 255/35/r18 and 265/35/r18. At lock and on bad roads, I imagine it might, but the other 99.9% of the time, good to go though! |
