I'm still holding off judgement until after my weekend trip of driving, but this definately is getting better. I assume I'm getting use to the new throttle points. It still is weird to me how if I go WOT(this is where the lag is!) it doesn't repond as good as if I just go 1/4 or 1/2 throttle. The power is definately distributed differently than original stage1.
Sorry to cause mass panic and send this board into a frenzy. I will update you if I can throughout the weekend if I can find a computer.

Also, thanks to steve at dinan for contacting me after being alerted to my issues!

It seems BMW already has a newer version out (version 30. something). I discovered this because I am having my car flashed today with Stage II ver. 2. I was also scheduled to get my CD player replaced which, I confirmed, requires a full software reload. And that would have resulted in the latest software being loaded.

So I axed the CD repair because I can live without my CD player (I have 6FL) until all these software issues are sorted. But I can't live without my Dinan powered badassed ride.

Maybe we could get Shiv, scalbert, marvelphx, hotrod2448, et al to help us to understand how the ECU adjusts to driving style.
+1 (or more likely, +100) I can understand "adaptation" with a piggyback or add-on, but I don't understand that the Dinan reflash needs to adapt. Or is it just that modern ECUs constantly "adapt to your driving style"?

let's see.
1. got the bad flash; laggy drove like stock; car was still fast.
then
2. got revised flash; after much screaming. got in car; holy !@#$.

so i'd say the adaptation period was about 1200 feet. the amount of distance between the bmw service park spot and the road.

hasn't gotten any faster or slower than i can tell. I'm sure fuel trims and timing pull adapts every time i drive the car since thats the whole point of trims to correct for conditions that change.

when i got the bad flash and the dude said "just let it adapt" that is when my stomach sunk the first time i drove it. i knew it was wrong before i got home. the whole adaptation is crap. the car demands 13.2psi its going to make a whole lot more torque instantly.

i swear the dealers run 100 octane or SSTT's on their demo cars. or some special bmw secret sauce because those cars are always faster than what you get lol. (i never buy demo models; i know what i do with them )

Question

Cane, how was the weekend drive? Any changes/improvements/conclusions? Any further discussion with Dinan or Thompson?

After driving 500+ miles, my car is back! I'm not sure why it seemed so unresponsive right after the reflash/progman updates, but it's definatley a BEAST again! All the power is there it's just distributed differently now. Even taking my morning drive to work this morning, the car just seems to get stronger. It's just so much fun to drive again!
I still can't get any answer as to which progman I have now, but honestly I could care less now that the power is there again

I'm a happy camper again!!!!

Happy for you man!
I wish we could 100% confirm if you did get 29.2 as a base flash before the stage II rev 2 was reflashed.

Also, when you say the car is strong now, can you comment on any lag, specifically? How is it when you stop the throttle at, say 2000 rpm? Any lul then surge at 3000 rpm? How about the same at 3000+ rpm, any wait time there before the car moves?

The lag and unresponsiveness I 1st reported are both virtually gone. My car feels as responsive now as it did with the ORIGINAL flash I got back in december. It feels close to a NA engine(like it use to!) I'm very pleased.
