I can't stand it as well. I also hate the fact the people that love the burble tunes will let you know every 3.2 seconds you are around them.

I love the crackles and pops when they are done well. It sounds really nice on my 981 GTS.
However, someone with a 335 near me has an aftermarket tune with added crackles and pops. It sounds like absolute garbage. I would say it is slightly better than a cheap aftermarket Honda exhaust that sounds like an exhaust leak. |

To me, these nonsense burbles and pops are almost as bad as throwing a fake badge on the car.
Folks are tuning them thinking it sounds more exotic and speshul, when in reality it just sounds like a kids toy. Now, if it's a "real" pop, i.e. the way a Huracan etc. will backfire now and then, I'm fine with it. But the fake crap needs to stop.

My little brother had a '70 honda civic back in the day that would spit out a bang with the best of them. He would get it going, turn off the ignition, coast for a second, then fire it up. Bang! Instant muffler delete.
Anyway, I've always had the impression that if you knew what you were doing, tuning wise, your car ran smoothly and correctly. Pops and bangs were evidence of incompetence or the imminent death of a vehicle as in the movie "Uncle Buck".

There should be a requirement that if one modifies the car for these, that the car windows should automatically lower and stay lowered. If the driver wants to impose his desire on us, he should have to listen to it as loudly as we do.

I like it.
Have it done to my e46, and mk7R, but gets a little tiring if I leave it switched on for daily driving. Fun Driving = Love the Burbles Taking the Mrs to dinner = Not so much. So the ability to turn it on/off by switching to Sport/Sport+ would is a major bonus.

Chalk me up with thinking it's silly. Especially when I have seen people actually having to change their tune at the track, from a burble tune, to what they call either their safe tune, or go fast tune.
Now on a well modified and fast vehicle, a single pop at shift under full tilt, that's something else entirely. |

I adore the pops and cackles, but I prefer them to be low and warm in tone, not bright and assaulting, and CERTAINLY not the gunfire type.

Am I embarassed by them? Yes. They're silly and loud and obnoxious.
Do I like them? ...yeah. Yeah i kind of like them. Look, it's not my fault. I'm a child of the 90's and you know what was cool in the 90's? WRC rally cars. That's all "burbles" are. An attempt to copy the awesome anti-lag sounds of late 90's and early 2000's rally cars. And rally cars will always be the coolest. |

I am very surprised here with how many people don't actually like the snap, crackle and pops! cause watching all the millions of youtubers raving about it seems to be the trend these days. I don't like them at all and I would post comments on how bad it sounded and I would get ripped for making such a statement but than reading this I see how many peiple actually don't like it is really surprising

Personally I'm not an exhaust guy. I like a nice exhaust note when I punch it but nothing to excessive or that will be noisy at cruising speeds. It should supplement the driving experience, not overwhelm it.

I have a full Akra exhaust and a custom midpipe, and my E93 burbles deeply in 2nd and 3rd gear when slowing in lower RPMs, and I love it.
I don't mind the burbling, it's all the incessant loud pops and backfires that get on my nerves. So for this reason the AMG burbles don't really bother me, it's more the ready-made tunes that enable the pops and backfires within so many 4- and 6-cylinder exhaust systems that grate on my nerves. And I don't even like it in the late model F8Xs either. Just not my cup of tea, and it's enough where this alone would derail me from a purchase. I had a '15 M4 with a full Active Auto exhaust and a tune. But not a burble tune. It still sounded like a vacuum cleaner to me unless I was on a track really pushing it, but at least it was burble-less. Thank goodness the early F8Xs didn't have all the toneless burbles and pops from the factory. But I know I'm being a bit of a hypocrite since I love my S65 burbles ...but it's intermittent and they're not obnoxiously loud, it just adds a little character to the exhaust. Quote:
And let me just add that rally spectators are living as dangerously as many of the drivers, because they're standing mere feet from where these cars go zooming by, so if/when any of these vehicles lose control, spectators could be seriously injured. And nighttime rallies, WITH SPECTATORS, that's just bananas. Both drivers and spectators living on the edge. Last edited by KevinGS; 05-12-2020 at 10:16 AM.. |

I'm in agreement here. Deep growls and rumbles are fantastic, but burbles, farts and pops are embarrassing. People would always think a teenager was getting out of the car when i used to have my M3 ZCP

In a bid to rid my engine of some plastic I fitted new diverter valves and an aluminium charge pipe. Since then, my car pops & crackles a bit after I lift off. I didn't ask for them, they just happened. In the 4 months since doing so, I have grown to like the noises. Does this make me a tryhard wanker with a crappy car? Save the criticisms for 4-banger Mercs and Audi's, they do sound bad.

Maybe this is a generational thing. In my dad's day, the popular thing was to attach a spark plug to the exhaust and run the car rich. Flamethrowers made you obnoxious, but cool. He even did it to his motorcycles.
When I was growing up, car audio was in it's infancy and a set of 6x9 mindblower speakers made you obnoxious, but cool. So now it's pops and farts.
