This: https://www.injectorrx.com/ Dunking your injectors in an ultrasonic bath will clean them on the outside, but not really on the inside where it counts.

FWIW, the local dealer has the injectors for $441 retail! List is $330.
I can second that the index 9s are the worst. Have three 140K mile index 7s in, with no misfires. Two index 9s failed (cylinders 3 and 5). The third index 9 (cylinder 1) is still fine though. The 9s were installed by BMW under warranty… Both failed injectors were replaced with 12s, but that's because I was wary of eBay injectors. I read once that certain cylinders are more stressed somehow than others - is there any truth to this? |

Separately with the exception of one index-9, the rest of my injectors are all 1s. The progression of worst to best is not linear from series 1 to 12. BMW made engineering changes along the way to reduce manufacturing costs, with varying levels of success/failure. The index 1s were expensive to make because (I believe) they were cast in one piece. Later versions were two piece units that were welded together. I think 11s and 12s went back to that unibody style because it was a more reliable design. If anyone knows better about this above, please correct me.

I read similar things as well but in the end that all forum talk you know, no one links sources or links to show the info so I take it all with a grain of salt. |

Agree. I'm basing my comments off off of what I've read in this forum, and BMW service advisors. But frankly, Until Dr. Ing. Gunter von Unnötig Kompliziert, chief of the injector engineering section at Bosch coughs up the real story, this is all just us smokin' and jokin' on a cold morning at a Cars & Coffee meet...

Check my index 12 injector ordeal thread for clarity but I paid $1945 shipped for the index 12 kit that includes the decouplers on 11/4/21.
Subtotal $1756.08 Shipping $22.99 Tax $166.81 Total $1945.88 Last edited by Technics_; 12-23-2021 at 10:23 PM.. |

He is a made up person. I was trying to be ironic by implying that nobody here really knows why BMW contracted for 12 iterations of injectors - only the engineers in Germany really understand. If you do a little googling on the made up name you will see a commentary on BMW's penchant for engineering things in a seemingly needlessly complicated way.....

I was trying to make a simple joke, so no need to over analyze it. I do care about facts here, so if Siemens or Continental were the original manufacturers of the injectors, then I stand corrected.

If I didn't have so much money dumped into my e92 I would probably cut my losses and look into a different car with the pries of injectors going so high.
