2/08 build with cylinder 5 misfire

also, as a note - when the dealer updates based on the SIB, the car must meet the criteria, which yours did. there are several misfire complaint out on the N54, and all may be different -- so that said ---

cheers !!

I have my work order at home, will try to take a pic and upload for all to see....OH! the tech also found a slow air leak in my driver side rear tire...Off to the tire shop for me today.

With a single cylinder mis-fire, there is a good chance it's just a coilpack or plug, I would swap the cylinder 5 with another working cylinder to see if the mis-fire moves...if it doesn't it's either your plug or injector most likely. I had multiple mis-fires on different cylinders on my car.

I just got a misfire code for the same cylinder last night with the SES coming on then going off after a minute. It is likely a plug issue but it could be an injector as well.

I'm having this issue right now as well.. don't have a BT scanner, but I get limp mode and SES lights while crusing on fwy or if too much throttle is applied from a dig.. no issues with start up so hopefully not the fuel pump..

i was worried you might say that. anyway i changed all the plugs and still cyl. 5 misfire. i should have swapped the coil packs before taking it in but it's in the dealer's hands now for the software update.

maybe i should ask them to change the injector if the update doesn't work.

as a note:

its real important to communicate the "actual" conditions that the driveability issue occurs in --

1. during cold start
2. during regular driving (on initial accel / on part throttle at hiway speeds/ during aggressive accel)
btw: you really want to impress if its after the car is warmed up and driven for a while. or if its truly a cold start problem. the diags are different based on the complaint

giving the most information on the your problem will hopefully get the quickest and cleanest results.

given there are several factors that play into diagnosis, the best bet is to note the scenario while driving and and if it happens at a specific time (or place -- such as "it always happens when im going xx speed and at xx place" -- uphill - accel on freeway onramp and so forth) translate that to your SA, and make sure its documented like you said it (or at least close as possible) --

If you have a tune I suggest you get a BT but I am in LA as well and if you are in need and want to check it let me know. I am in Glendale. I have 2 vins left I can use my BT on.

thanks shifterboy.
i have more detail in my thread about the RR CC leaking oil.

hope i can get more tips from this thread too without hijacking it.

i have rough idle during cold starts and cel under heavy load after the car has warmed up. i did detect some oil in the spark plug wells from the catch can but i cleaned it and changed the plugs. someone else had this problem and stealership found oil in their injector. BMW is updating my software as i was pre 29.2.

did your SA write them as one complaint or two?

ie

customer states vehicle has rough idle during cold start

customer states when accelerating the check engine light comes on

??

i'm not sure how it was written up. they had to come pick up my car and drop off a loaner to my house during work hours so my wife arranged the exchange. Over the phone i mentioned to the SA on several occasions that it has rough idle and cel after warm.
i asked them to replicate the problem and they too were able to get a cel.

he did say he wasn't sure if the idle was normal for my car because of my mods which i thought was a strange comment. guess they are not used to dealing with modified cars.

if they duplicated the complaint it all the better --
I just get worried when a guy lumps multiple complaints into a "one liner" -

Bumping this up again.....Same Mis-fires are back on the same cylinders, 4-5-6 with the same codes and the same o2 sensor code at startup this afternoon...I cleared the codes, and reset adaptation and the car is running perfect. Makes me think there is some software issue. I will wait to see if it comes back again (it probably will) and it's back to the dealer again.

My only guess is that the people who swapped my o2 did possibly damaged the new sensor.

Did you modify anything or completely stock after the new software update?

i'm getting misfire on Cyl 6 as well but only in the 6000+ rpm range. I've swapped coil packs, changed plugs and still. The Cyl 6 injector was replaced in April/ May this year already. I have Rev II as well. I'm thinking it may be my software version as i'm 29.2 still so car's going into the shop for an update on monday. I read your thread and booked mine in to get updated. I'll follow the thread still and hopefully your issues get sorted!

badass it sounds like a software update will fix your problem.
joe, good luck and keep us posted.

for me, the new injector fixed the cyl. 5 misfire.
i also got an update but that didn't help.
