When you go in for the Emissions Recall do they update the software?

My 330i is pre-September 2005 and it never had user-programmable DRL through iDrive (although dealer could turn them on/off). I have the latest software update and I like the visual improvements (including the font).

Hey Silverado:
I recall that our cars were delivered about the same time -- yours a little earlier than my wife's and we looked at the pictures of yours more than once anticipating the delivery of hers (they are very similar builds).
In any case, I was mistaken about the user programmability of DRL in pre-Sept. cars.
One question on your software update, as her car is coming up on 15K, and we're trying to decide on when to do it.
Question: Is it true that you have now lost the pop-up window in the assistance screen when you have the map in that screen, i.e. currently, with the map displayed in the right screen, when a turn is approaching, the screen changes to the brown "arrow" screen before and through the turn. I understand that this function was lost somewhere around Progman 19 and won't be fixed until March. True?
Mike

Apparently, the dealer CANNOT turn them off (-: if you get Progman 23 or something like it. There's a TSB about updating the software -- again -- to correct a forced DRL on condition.

This happened to me and I've been driving around for two months with the DRLs on which I don't like (though I know it's safer).

LOL. That's all we need. A security breach in our vehicle computer systems. Will give new meaning to carjacking.

Yes, that feature was lost a while back Your assistance window has to be on a non-map view in order to momentarily get the Arrow Display screen when the turn approaches. I think it's an oversight and I don't know how to tell BMW about it

Interesting. My experience is a little different because I went to the dealer in the early days and asked them to turn it ON and they did. Since I don't want to turn them off, I didn't run into this issue.

So you're saying that every car that gets version 24 will get DRL that can't be turned off? Or did they manually turn it on and can't turn it off?

No need to tell BMW, they are very aware and there is already a bulletin about this issue:
http://www.alldata.com/tsb/BMW/11596...06/846106.html

Will be fixed in March 2007.

Yes. But I think it's Progman 23. Check out this link.

Note that it's covered by the warranty. I'm pleased about that, since DRLs are not required here in Mass., and I don't want them on.
