From the pics it looks like the rear lights now have two strips which at night are going to look more like the A4/5.

Basically:

Likes - New Msport front bumper

Dislikes - Eyebrows, SE silver fin in front bumper, dumbo mirrors, rear light strips

Not sure about the wheels, would have to see them in the flesh but if the hubs still rust then they are not so good.

Overall I think the changes are a little bit chav and unneccessary without improving or adding to the design, almost as if they weren't designed by the original designer
They are however, only minor cosmetic changes and those who haven't had or got a pre LCI version probably wouldn't know any different.

No, that's the N57 (I think), which is in the new 5 series 535i.

The N55 is like the N54 but with valvetronic (i.e. variable intake and exhaust valve)

Correct - which is why the VAG DSG is so horrid with its push-stick-forward for up which is counter intuitive against the sequential box that its supposed to mimic.

Indeed - and why everyone who first stepped into a Porsche with PDK commented

I know you did, I was just saying I think the incandescent look is more subtle...

I quite like the white halos though. Not sure about the eyebrow as some of you lot are calling it. Hopefully I will be able to have a look tomorrow when I go across there.

Eh hold on your quote was 'manual stick' not 'sequential box' if you read your original post. I was just correcting your quote on the manual stick to me and the majority of people that would mean a car with 3 pedals and gear lever not 2 pedals, with which you can go 'up gears' in both forward and back motions

But what you say about a 'sequential box' is right in peoples logic it should be forward for down and back for up. The back to front way audi did it the last time a drove one couple of years ago is a bit back to front shall we say.

Fair enough It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but given the choice I do prefer it back = up and forwards = down.

But if someone gave me a 911 turbo with PDK, I wouldn't complain

I drove an SMG M3 Evolution (E36) when they were first introduced into the UK. The BMW salesman accompanying me on the test drive told me to remember it this way:

When you're hard on the brakes (slowing down, obviously) and going down the gears you're tipping forward in your seat and straining against the seatbelt. As such, your whole body is travelling forwards, thus it makes sense to be pushing the gear lever forwards to go down the gears.

Likewise, when you are accelerating hard and are being pushed backwards in your seat, it makes sense to move with that motion and pull back on the stick to go up a gear.

I have remembered it like that since 1998 and any car I've driven that doesn't conform to that regime always seems a little wierd and counter intuitive to me.

The advent and wide use of paddles has somewhat made the stick moevment redundant in my eyes. I'd be very interested to see what sort of numbers of SMG/Auto users with paddles actually change gear using the stick. I'm guessing it would be minimal.

I usually use the stick instead of the paddles because it feels a bit more involving.

The paddles are a bit too 'clicky'

I like the paddles but would prefer to have "pull" functionality only. Up-shift on the right, down-shift on the left.

This is achievable via pretty simpe mod IIRC but not sure where it leaves you re your warranty.

And as anyone who's ever seen any touring car / rally car in car footage will know sequential boxes are ALWAY like that.

The VAG way was so odd, when under braking negative G you had to pull the stick back against the G to go down the gears, and vice versa under acceleration

and this, if I understand Anneka's post correctly, is what they've moved to now. Right for up, Left for down.

More news...

We are pleased to confirm the introduction of "metallic Mineral White" available to order from production week 22, June 2010 and standard on the 330i/d, 335i/d

Re: Paddle shifts - the left paddle shifts down and the right one shifts up a gear, I drove one this morning and it feels completely natural.

Re: halo lights, I have done my very best to find out but unfortunately there is no information avilable yet. I will update as soon as I hear anything.

That makes so much more sense! Wish mine was wired like that. Maybe when my warranty's up...

the N55 engine is indeed a SINGLE turbo engine (a dual scroll single turbo, but a single turbo nonetheless). It is the same engine used in the new 535i GT and the forthcoming 535i saloon. The N57 engine is a diesel engine
