That's what I thought, but apparently it was tested and proved wrong. Look at post #25 above.
Still, BMW puts the windshield fluid tank in the passenger side fender well for one reason or another. Tapping into the tank does not increase the volume of meth mix in the car, and keeps it in front of the firewall. The capacity of the windshield reservoir is also smaller than of a typical trunk mounted tank. As long as the mix is 50/50, it seems to be safer option.

So it looks like the washer fluid solution is my best bet. If I do it that way, at least I dont need to worry about disconnecting the tank and worrying about pump in the trunk.
I was thinking about having the pump installed in my wheel well or left side front fender. Any thought? Also is there any dealer service that requires fenders or bumpers or wheel wells to be removed? BTW any other place to install meth aside from the charge pipe? I'm kinda tight on space... Last edited by Bavarian E92; 08-11-2010 at 12:48 AM.. |

All I can say is where ever you mount this, make sure you protect it from an impact. Some are mounting tanks above the battery. If it leaked on your battery, that would be a disaster. |

I've never had an issue (knock on wood) and if I did, you can see that it WOULD NOT spray on the engine. My system resides above the lower air ducting feeding the intercooler and below the kidney ducting feeding the radiator. It is essentially encased in its' own compartment.
Many people run lines through their frames, next to hot exhaust etc, I wasn't going to do that. Others run their lines through the interior, I was out on that too. Look closely, I even went so far as to slip my plastic line through rubber fuel hose to protect it from being chafed.

I've seen your install and could argue many of the same points you've raised about mine. What if one of your push fittings leaked? What if you were hit from behind and that big tank you have splashes all over? What if your line bursts that runs right next to your exhaust under the car? Yes, this has happened. Just ask those guys over at (unnamed meth kit vendor). Anyhow, you get the idea.

You're VERY wrong...check the washer fluid container, there's a big sign on it FLAMMABLE...i once thought the same until I tried to light it up, thanks FBIS
However, having said all that, I've got a washer fluid tank setup and I personally feel its much safer there than in my trunk for my own reasons...when you talk about protection from impact, there's nothing you can do to stop/prevent that...a spray of meth on your hot engine in most cases won't do anything as meth is VERY quick to evaporate, realistically speaking...there's a very slight chance a fire might develop but in reality honestly this is a very remote possibility...let's just say that you're as protected from fire as much as you're protected form fire had you got hit in the front passenger side where your washer fluid tank is (what protects that from impact/fire)??? stop worrying so much... Also - I assume you guys have fire extinguishers in the car right? I have a 1lb in the cabin (fits nicely under the seat) and a 2.5lb in the trunk. |

I think the booster juice might affect the clear coat on your car. If there is a problem with your oil cooler if you have one but I dont know about the left side of the car. Like you were saying the intercooler is another place that the meth lines can hook up to, since air is being forced in from the intercooler. I would think that would be less obvious than hooking it up to the charge pipe
