All in all...I still love my CA. For those out there that have doubts or reservations....
Got to love it!

What's your point here? Even if you don't have CA, there is no need to insert the key into the door lock. If your car is that frozen over, won't you have to remove all the ice and snow from the handle sensors anyway?

Yeah that commercial would have made a lot more sense back in the 80s with the dawn of keyless entry. Still funny tho.

Not a possbility for me. More often that not I go up to the DIY car wash place by my house, usually at night to keep the water spots to a bare minimum, and I can't put the fob inside my house 3 miles away obviously and can't leave it in the car because of the security risk of someone dashing out of nowhere, getting in my car, locking me out and then driving away.

Is it just me, or does it seem that there are more issues having CA than not having it? Having to contemplate where do I put my FOB when I wash the car or do I have to touch the door handle in a certain way seems to be a PITA. Without CA, I would hit the button once to unlock the door, once to lock the door and that's it. That's comfort enough for me!

It may be a poor analogy, but some people prefer a manual transmission over an automatic. I do. But I definitely prefer comfort access (my 335i) over the regular key fob (my wife's Mazda RX-8). |

I hear people have been doing this but i still think you have to be a serious dumb ass to walk out of a car without shutting it off.... Regular key or CA...it is just something you do before walking away from a car... SHUT IT OFF!

I'm sure this doesn't happen to any single person regularly, but it is the kind of thing that can happen on that rare occasion when you have a bunch on your mind, distractions from passengers, are in a hurry - or all three. And no it hasn't happened to me - but it almost has. I caught it once just as I was about to close the door. If someone really has ongoing trouble with this, then I'd recommend making sure you insert the key in the dash every time you drive. Pretend its required. Of course, in that case, you are really not getting much benefit from having CA in the first place. But if you order it and then later are having problems remember to turn off the car, well there's one solutions for you. |

With a manual, you will probably turn the car off

You mean because you leave the car in gear? I don't do that anymore (not since I began driving cars without lots of power). Its not safe. If someone starts the car thinking its in neutral and lets out the clutch - BOOM, especially in a car with this kind of torque. Another thing that you don't think will ever happen until it does. This one _has_ happened to me, but luckily there was nothing in front of me.

1-Place right foot on brake 2-Depress the clutch with left foot 3-Insure gear selector is in neutral position with right hand 4-Turn key or in BMW's, push start button with right hand The only time I had a manual transmission car lurch forward on me while starting it when I was ten years old. My father left the 1962 Bug home one day and the keys were in the house. I figured this was my chance to rev it up. I got in, turned the key, the car jumped forward (luckily there was nothing in front of it),turned it off and never spoke about it again until this post. Never made that mistake with a manual transmission since.

It is all about patience… simply touch the handle (wrapping you fingers as normal) and pause for 1.5 seconds… We can all afford this time (unless you are a bank robber) and the car will unlock (a noticeable prompt) then pull. I have never had any issue at all with the CA.

Leaving it out of gear puts all your eggs in the hands of your e-brake....

It takes your car 1.5 seconds to register and unlock the car with CA? That would annoy me. Seriously, mine is essentially instant. Less than a half-second from putting my hand behind the door handle. Locking, OTOH, there is a pause of maybe 1 full second.

I've never even come close to leaving my car on with CA because I have auto headlights and just press the stop button twice then leave. In cars without auto-headlights I forget to turn them off all the time because I turn off the headlights then try to hop out

So do the car doors automatically lock when you start the car?
How would you let someone in if the car was started? Sorry I don't have my e90 yet to figure it out myself.

No, but there is a setting that you can set to lock when you go above ~5 mph.
Press the lock button on the dash.
