I went to see the ski today.

The exterior looked mint.
I started it up (cold start) and it started right away. It was idling around 1.5k (normal I guess for a cold start...?)

I opened up the engine compartment and noticed a few things. All the way at the bottom, there was some water that seemed to be collecting. Is this ok? It seemed like old water probably from washing or something.

On the top of the engine, I noticed some oil (seemed like fresh oil) probably from a recent oil change?
There were no leaks or anything like that.

I took a vid and pics so I'll post them up in a bit.
Some input would be nice from those of you that already have a ski and experience with it.

The ski had 31 hours and the oil was changed 2 and battery was changed once along with some recalls.
It's under warranty until 9/2012.

I didn't read much of this thread so forgive me if this has been said.

If you are looking for the fastest accelerating ski out of the box it is the RXPX. There are tons of aftermarket parts for the rxp / x and also the Yamaha GPR's and FZR's. The most important thing about the supercharged Seadoo's are the supercharger washers. They HAVE to be metal...from 04 - 07 they had ceramic washers there prone to failure and when they did fail the ceramic dust would contaminate the oil. After a failure the absolute only way to fix the problem completely is to tear the motor down and clean the oil pump screens. Don't let anybody tell you differently. Aftermarket metal washers are cheap about $100 and are not to difficult to replace but you do need a few specialty tools made for servicing the blower unit. In 08 Seadoo changed the washers to metal but there was some speculation about those washers being inferior. I could go on but check out greenhulk.net there is countless hours of reading about all types of skis. I suggest you start there. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I did see somebody talking about NJ riding, I am from NJ and know the Barnegat Bay like the back of my hand.

Water and or oil in the hull isn't the worst thing. I think most skis have it. I wouldn't be too worried I would just question him about it. Lots of people just spray lube (WD40) all over the engine after running it in the water to prevent rust and stuff like that. So that is what it could be.

He said he just picked it up from service (getting it ready for summer since it was shrink wrapped for the winter) so he's not sure why the water was in there. It wasn't a lot, maybe 8-12 ounces worth if not less all the way at the bottom of the hull.

The oil was only at the top of the engine which you can see from the video I posted. It looked like clear oil so probably new oil I'm hoping that they spilled during an oil change.

I just left a deposit on a Kawasaki 250x.
I know the RXP-X is the quickest but I couldn't find one around my price range.

I'm launching from Liberty State Park. How far are you from here?

Water at the bottom of the engine compartment is fine. It always gets in there, and you have to get the jetski a bit vertical (on trailer) and open the plugs to let the water out. I am not sure why there is oil on the engine, but I think the most important thing you could do is take it on a run in the water before buying. Check if the top speed is close to what it should be and if it picks up speed quickly from a standstill.

It's going to be in the 50's next weekend and probably raining.
I don't think it's the best weather to try and top out a jet ski.

The only thing that's reassuring me is the fact that it's still under warranty so if I have any issues, I guess they would cover it especially since he has all maintenance records.

^true, you could always wait for it to get a bit warmer...when I bought my ski the guy actually brought it to the dock for me to test drive it...this was during the summer though.

in any case you should be fine if the ski has very low hours..

i used to ride by reynolds channel in baypark in east rockaway...it's nice spot that leads directly to atlantic beaches

it's just as fun, maybe the water isn't as nice but still fun

+1000 on Greenhulk but like this forum do not get too scared by people talking about the world ending and their ski dying, it's fraction of the true riding population.
Looks like oil just puddled up from a sloppy change. Just clean up as best you can and watch it the first few rides, if it returns you have a warranty and get it looked at. Change you oil at least every season and more like every 30 to 40 hours on the FI boats. They all tend to get a little fuel in the oil just like we get deposits on the intakes.
Also small amount of water in the low areas of the hull is pretty normal, that's why I pull my hull plugs when I tow, so it drys out and when I check everything before launching the first time of the weekend I know what's in there or not, just remember to screw the plugs back in.
Side note I'm getting to use a brand new modififed Ultra 300 first weekend in May, that should be a giggle and hopefully there's enough water to support the speeds of upwards of 75 mph on a gun.

That's deep in there. Waters should be calm right?

I'm thinking about Manhattan Beach area.
I don't have too many options for calm waters near the Statue of Liberty.

On nice days I might just tow it out to the Jones beach area.
Anyone know any launch ramps around Merric/Jones Beach that have water access also?

Merric is perfect from what I saw. That's actually where I'm picking up the ski this Sunday.
The water looks pretty calm and I always see people just anchor and swim around their boats or stay on floats... that's how calm it is some days.

Yea I joined that forum. It doesn't seem too active though (as compared to this).

Don't know where my comment went along with this video.

Tried the ski today for the first time. Cold start, it started quick and I put it in the water for a 2 minute ride.

I let it warm up for a bit (about a minute or two) then picked up speed gradually.
It cut the throttle around 40mph and felt like the rev limiter kicked in. I let off and went full throttle again and it did 58 mph at 7.6k rpm.
The whole time it was letting out white smoke even when I took it out of the water.

I took the video above showing this.
The smoke is odorless.

Any ideas?

It felt like the throttle was cutting off a few times but I don't think I let it warm up properly anyway.
