What an unfair comparisson, kind of dumb in my opinion. How could you fairly compare a 335i bone stock except the procede vs a M3 that is fitted with all the performance advantages:
Toyo tires coilovers(better for launching the car) LSD fatter tires lighter rims and last but not least fitting it with a VF supercharger to an already higher displacemnet engine that is made for power (high compression ratio, fast revin, light components). Vishnu powered 335i did very well but this is a very unfair comparisson, $1300 put into the 335i vs $10000-$15000 added into the M-3 which already cost $12000 more ![]() By the way, there is no data on the 1/4 mile for that 335i. |

The mitsubishi series turbos are typically capable of producing about 20% more flow when mated with bigger compressor wheels, better waste gate flapper, ported and polsihed o2 hosuing, ceramic coated and all the options available. I would definately go that route before putting any turbokit. My.2c |

The 3 had no chance! The M was running on VOLKS!

I am seriously considering a Proceed Chip in the very near future. I wish they had a local dyno that had a $999 special where they did the install and tested it for one price. It is a great deal at $1300 but my budget will not allow it right now.

I agree. Add to this all of the electronics and far superior sound system and active steering and this is why I like my 335 more than my erstwhile M3.

+1. i was disappointed at the premise of the comparison. as far as shiv is concerned, that is a pretty good writeup, but its a shame though that they couldnt have run a real comparison, not a $47k 335i vs a 75k+ modded out the ass M3. the m3 people who are 'rejoicing' their win are silly. it would be like if we took a procede+335+tires+brakes+coilovers etc etc and ran it against a 1995 M3 that is 25k less and were then excited about beating the 'alpha male' of the bimmers. gimme a break. oh and the comment the author made about "this is where i would go to get tuned" with that company not even having a thing out for the 335 yet is a cheapshot at shiv imo. shiv was gracious enough to show him this industry leading tuned car for a write up and the guy does everything he can do make it look not so impressive. i say 'all he could' bc there is just no hiding all the power of that car, but he wasnt looking to praise it for what it was, thats for sure.

The torque curve on the 335i looks more ragged than others I've seen, which are flat from 1800 right on up to 5000+. I recall Shiv saying he had done some tweeking to get it smoother in the 3800 range.
It is just amazing that such a cheap mod can make the 335i into a whip capable of standing up to an M3. I currently drive a 350Z (335i sitting on dock in CA) and cringed reading how mods of 5-10 grand were getting hp gains of 50-60 and putting the engine on the fast track to the junkyard. Has there been a comparo of the stock 335i against the E46 M3. The numbers seem to indicate it would be very close. |

There have been a few videos of stock M3 vs. 335 but 335 was at higher elevation so it had less horsepower loss and kept pulling away from the M3 |

I don't understand your comment at all. It seems there is a crowd on this forum that expects the 335 to win any comparison - when it doesn't, they come up with all sort of excuses as to why it wasn't fair, appropriate, legal or comparable. LOL.
The M3 has been out of production for about a year. You can pick a decent used example for mid-$30k, add the $10k supercharger (no other modifications) and still end up with a car at a similar price point to a 335 with Procede. The comparison would still go for the M3 in terms of speed, handling and feel. The 335 is a fine car - I certainly look forward to picking mine up in Munich and wringing its neck on various European roads. ![]() |

A question for shiv, is there any way to make the procede give the 335i an M3 feel? As we all know the M3 is a car of its own for all the people that have driven one. Is there a way to give the 335i that powerful, M3 feel with a different map, rather than it being smooth? just a thought.

the 335i could do with some more mods, but as to the notion that the comparo was poorly conceptualized....both cars are FI, the most significant/distuingishing point of comparison in either car

Ya but OEM vs Aftermarket FI kit @ $9-10K the bottom line is both cars are great but this "Comparo" is just unfair anyway you look at it. I'm not even saying it's unfair because the 335 "lost" so to speak but if they wanna compare cars like that maybe they should have gotten a 330i or something and did an FI kit and brakes /tires/Software/Suspension yada yada not a bone stock car with a new map of course it would lose. Thats like throwing an average guy with a set of new gloves in the Ring with Mike Tyson.

I think that it was a pretty nice writeup. Look, the 335 i had very little in mods. And their conclusion is that it will become the Toyota Supra of the Euro crowd. In other words, there is much more to come! :rocks:

They didnt post 1/4 mile times because it probably beat the M3 in 1/4 because some people have been running high 12's with just a procede and nothing else

Hi guys,
The cars were never run side by side. Or even raced at the same time. It's all subjective which explains why no hard numbers (other dyno dyno graphs) were provided. shiv |

Shiv, do you have anything to add regarding the comparison that was not mentioned in the article?
