Just an idea in principle - I know your gauge is not round ...

^ exactly something like I want to fabricate. However, with my idea of doing the vacuum formed plastic, it would look like a stock part of the steering column housing. At least thats what Im trying to execute in theory.

Ok, after going through tons of "vacuum forming" type research, I decided to get my ass to home depot.

Walked around for a bit and finally found something I thought I could try. After about an hour of cutting, grinding and sanding, I decided to just go for the original idea.

Soooooo, Im going to mount it IN the drivers side air vent. Ive already taken it apart to where theres just trim left and I think this might turn out pretty cool. Unfortunately theres a LOT of room in the vent and the gauge is so small. It could look out of place. I could also now mount it TO the trim and have the wires running through the vent now that I know how to take that apart.

Let the ideas flow. Dont worry, Im taking pics of eveything I do so there will be a FULL DIY on this.

Its a lease so no matter what I do, I get to give it back in the end.

I was able to take the vents apart without cutting anything. Im very happy with the way this is turning out. Hopefully Ill have it all wired up and finished tonight.

Holy cow this came out awesome. Im so proud of myself. I love the look of it and I can see it out of the corner of my eye perfectly. Its going to take a little getting used to because with a needle gauge, you can just remember where the numbers are where it points. With the digital gauge, you actually have to pay attention to it to see numbers.

So far, the lowest in vacuum Ive seen is -11.4lbs and the highest boost Ive seen is 12.9lbs. Id have to say its working correctly.

Im too tired to post everything right now but Ill have the DIY done tomorrow night.

That sounds awesome! I'm glad that it worked out good for you. You can at least post up a pic of the finished product, i'm dying to see what you came up with.

for those of you who know of the APR centervent boost gauge for Audi's, I am in the works of making one for my far (335). Im going to use the stock vent and a small guage...it will look like this. Im waiting for a stock 335 vent assembly so I can start making one. and that guage that APR sells is the perfect size for our stock vent.

this is a picture of it on my A4 Wagon

This was what my idea was based on. I took my vent apart and tried the same tactics to remove the slots as I did on my Audi. It isnt built the same. I had to come up with some other idea.

That is pretty cool! I have my boost gauge sitting in my glove box right now. When I want to use it I pop the hood, connect it to a tee, run the line inside the open driver side window, and wedge the gauge between the windsheild and dashboard. I need a cleaner setup.

So you ordered a spare vent? Do you remember how much it was? Sounds like a good idea also. I looked at APR's website, but I couldn't find that gauge for sale. Do they sell just the boost gauge without the whole vent assembly?

Hyperm3... i'm still waiting to check out your DIY.

I think he meant AWE not APR. AWE is the one that made that vent gauge. AWEtuning.com.

Im still waiting for time to resize my almost 40 pictures and get them into the DIY when I get home.
