Well the reason I ask is because I believe it has the tune already on it I just wanted someone to in depth show me how to use it and kinda set my car up. I got a chargepipe installed at vs motorsports and the guy that did it just told me to go on youtube to figure out how to use it so he wasnt very helpful lol..

I know a lot of people have said this already but thanks for a great review, this is what the forums are all about! I am still trying to decide between all the options (PROceed, JB4 and COBB) and can't wait to pull the trigger.

I have both together. The Cobb by itself just is not enough.

Wow, this thread came back from the dead again!
I thought I was happy with the JB4 back then... but now Ive been running the G5 ISO with a 50/50 E85/93 mix and it is so much more powerful and so butter smooth! With the G5 ISO and the newest firmware, there is no comparison from when I first wrote this review, it really is that much better!

Does the jb4 stage one allow controls through the Idrive control? I wanted to get a tune but I am hearing the jb4 is better and I also want the a tune that's reliable and doesn't mess the idle up and make the car drive like a drag car.

Your idle will be fine and your car will drive like a normal car....a fast normal car. Just make sure your coils and plugs are in good shape or you will get misfires (This applies for all tunes)

the G5 and a Flash (COBB or BMS) is the way to go.

This is one of about the best threads I've read on N54 tuner topics, so I'd like to bump it a bit (so to speak). Anyway since this is about a two year old thread from the first post, what about reliability?
Are any of you long term JB4 users constantly needing to change plugs/coils, etc? How are the transmissions and other drivetrain items holding up? Turbos okay? Also wondering if there's evidence that the meth injection does anything to keep the intake valves cleaner (i.e. acting like a solvent)? Thinking about installing a JB4 into my daily driver and want to be able to, well, drive it daily.

All the maintenance items are still just that, maintenance... I think my turbos suffered more when I installed the piggy as they started to rattle the same day I installed it. Was able to get most of it out but just didn't like the onset lag. Removed the piggy and rattle was gone.. Meth seems to help as I cleaned my valves at 85k and they weren't as bad as most. Regardless of what option you end up with, just remember to enjoy your car. At the end of the day, that's all that matter. |

each tune has its pros and cons, just keep in mind that if you get a Cobb it is recommended to get it custom tuned to take full advantage of it (since Cobb maps are very conservative).

Reviving an old thread that I have looked upon numerous times since I began ownership of my 135i. This thread convinced me to give the JB4 G5 a shot. I had issues with mine (CEL almost every night, OBD II port would not work for inspection even in map 0, just strange things) so I ended up selling it and eventually ending up with an AccessPort V3. Most people don't have any issues with the JB4, but I found in my research that some cars just don't seem to "like" the piggyback and will give nothing but trouble with them. I guess mine is one of them (JB4 was re-installed probably close to 10 times to make sure everything was proper). I have never looked back from Cobb and I am even more satisfied with it on the 135i than I was with it on my previous Subaru. Currently on a Stage 1+ Aggressive and loving every bit of it. Well worth spending the extra money for in my opinion, too.

Saying that COBB doesn't support their product anymore is an exaggeration, they still offer support to any customer to resolve issues direct, even new ROMs for existing supported vehicles. |
