How long did it take them to cash your check?
How long after cashing the check did it take you to get the plate?

The FAQ says it could take 9-12 months to get the plate

I sent in my application over a month ago and they still haven't cashed my check.
Wow, I totally forgot about this. I paid almost a year ago, but if I recall correctly, California would only produce them if a certain number of orders were placed. Not sure if there was a deadline or not that if the minimum order wasn't reached then refunds would be issued. I have 1966 Mustang I want these black plates for: to replace its original bent and crumpled plates.

Did they cash your check?

They needed to get 7500 orders on at least one of the styles before Jan 1st, 2015 in order to start making them. The black plates are currently 13k+ order I know it had more than 7500 on Jan 1st. So unless they're full of it, they should have started making the black one. It sounds like they won't make the yellow or blue since they don't have enough orders.

From the DMV FAQ:
Q15: Will the DMV wait until January 1, 2015 to implement the program even if the minimum is reached before that date?
A: No. Once the required minimum is reached, implementation of the program will go into development.

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/legacyplates/faqs.htm

Let's get on it! I'll even place an order for my GF and bro.

Spread the word, the more people order the less we have to wait!

Put in an order dec 2014 for a 1960's plate. it was well above 7500 at that point. Hoping to get it sooner than their 9 month expected wait

From DMV web page:

Q2: When should I expect to receive the 1960’s plates I have pre-ordered?
A: Expect issuance in the late spring through summer 2015. Allow additional time for personalized plates.

Finally a CA plate that's not boring/ugly... Anyone got any updates? The black plate hit 7500 pre-orders in May 2014. So that one is guaranteed. I think they got 12,000 pre-order by 12/31/2014. I think the plates might start being delivered in April/May 2015 based on some articles I read online. But information is sketchy.

I mailed my pre-order on 12/31/2014 and they just cashed it last week. My car is Black Sapphire so that black plate is a must!

From CA DMV site:
Only the 1960's plate reached the required 7,500 orders before January 1, 2015, and will be the only one implemented. The 1950's and 1970's plates did not achieve the required 7,500 minimum orders.

Legacy License plates can be ordered for any year model automobile, commercial vehicle, motorcycle, or trailer. The Legacy License Plate Program will not replace the current Year of Manufacture (YOM) license plate program.

The DMV is accepting pre-orders, for the 1960 Legacy plate, until the plates are ready to be manufactured.

A quick question for you guys - I am filling out the form to pre order my set of the 1960's plate and since I already have a personalized plate, I would assume that the box that I check on the form is "converting from existing personalized plate" correct?

Also what would I put in the plate choices section? For example if I want my plate to say TR4 then would I just put in different options that I would be OK with in terms of the letter/number placements?

Also how would they know what is my current personalized plate that I am switching from to this new one?

I just mailed my form and check today as well! Can't wait for the Legacy 1960's plates for my BSM E90!

I mailed it in using the regular 44 cents stamp...I am hoping that it will reach there and won't be a problem! haha

Anyone know what is the turn around time and when would they start shipping?

I was looking into this a few weeks ago. Has anyone received theirs yet? Thought I saw one the other day but it was just a New York plate.

I was at AAA this week to renew my tag. That's where my black plates will eventually be sent. They told me they haven't received any black plates yet.

Does anyone have any idea what happens if I ordered the plates with a car I don't have anymore?

I ordered mine like as soon as I could. I can't remember exactly but I been waiting for almost two years + now. When I ordered my black plates less than 500 was the total.
I hear the personalized plates would be out end summer. Should go by whom order them first.
