If for whatever reason the dealer installs over the AccessPORT flash, the AccessPORT is temporarily unusable. You would need to ship the AccessPORT back to COBB Tuning, along with a receipt from your BMW service center showing the work that was done. We would then license the AccessPORT so it could be reinstalled on your vehicle.

Thanks,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but how does the accessport handle the shadow tuner codes? Lets say I get a limp mode or something where the check engine light comes on. Say a faulty fuel pump. If I uninstall the AP will it clear all the engine codes during the uninstall or just any that pertain to the AP? Also, does stage 2 have a speed delimiter?

Can you please address this question above (if you have worked on the newest software 2.40.2)?

Thanks in advance!

I have received several ROMs and will be sending out an update tomorrow evening. I'm sorry if I missed you emailing updates.

We are constantly evolving the product to make it better whether it be adding features, power, smoothness, or support. This goes for all our AP product line.

I generally look at a different part number than that, so I can't say if I have seen 2.40.2. However, it would be possible for them to change the security at anytime. It's the typical cat and mouse game played between manufactures and hackers.

Sometime this week I will update one of my ECUs to the latest and let y'all know.

Clap135 is correct. Some additions are more time consuming that others. This coming release I have grouped several together since I was working away from solid internet access the past few days. The ROM collection will slow down in the coming weeks.

The AP will clear all the engine codes on uninstall. However once the car is started again the pertinent codes will reappear. There is black box recording for when the motor is put through extreme strain, such as an over rev. I do not clear that data currently.

Speed limiter will be bumped to ~200mph on all the maps.

Cheers,
Rob

A little update for everyone. I had a BMW master tech install an AP on a 335i then go looking for the tune when installed and after an uninstall.

AP Installed:
They can see the BMW specific DTC 2FA3 which is a un-coded ECU, meaning the data section of the ROM has a different part number than another part of the ECU. No harm comes from this code. Either way I will be turning that code off soon so a'll don't have to look at it.

We recommend uninstalling the AP before heading to the dealer just in the case they flash over the AP.

AP Uninstalled:
There is no sign or definitive evidence that the AP was ever on the car.

After a flash:
During a flash we tell all the modules in the car to be quiet so we have uninterrupted access to the ECU. This does set a code in the different models saying they lost communication with the ECU. As of current I don't clear those codes given they go away after some driving and they are very common to see on BMWs coming in for work. Several things can set off those codes such as a low battery. The BMW tech says the first thing they do to a car is clear codes to see what comes back given how often there are random codes thrown. What codes come back is what they look at and work on.

I will be adding support to talk to all the modules in the cars, including clear and reading codes very soon. After I add support to clear all the codes, I will have the the tech retest.

The most important part being once the AP is uninstalled, there is nothing in the ECU that leads the techs to believe a flash was ever completed to the ECU.

Hope that helps and I'll keep you all up on the progress.

Cheers,
Rob

To be 100% clear, I'm not worried about changes in 2.40.2. We will work through any issues that may come up, if any. If that time period is too long, we are more than happy to give people their money back.

As I said in the previous post I will check on that update to see what all changed.

Rob

The "shadow codes" are cleared by the same means as the base codes. They are however read using a different command.

can flash tunes even throw a "tuner" code? The flash program should just adjust the fueling thresholds as to not trip the code or jump over that subroutine all together if it was ever called (adjust memory address offsets).

What about (and forgive me if I'm speaking in layman's terms) what we've heard that not even dealers have access to certain information that is pulled off the ECU when they connect to it, and that info is sent directly to BMW headquarters, so they don't even see it? Included in that info is supposedly the details they'd need if they were investigating something like a turbo failure.

Which is why GIAC recommends a flash back to stock first (not just a switch back to stock) in those cases, before going in for major warranty repair work.

Someone who knows what I'm talking about can hopefully chime in with the details of the systems.

When GIAC switches to a "stock-like" map with the handheld switcher, it is switching the load tables to ones that mimic stock tables. The ROM is still GIAC ROM. That's why they want you to flash the stock ROM vs. switching to a stock MAP.

If I understand correctly, when you uninstall the AP, you are actually flashing the stock ROM back to ECU (which was extracted when you initially installed the AP).

I don't know if that overwrites the mythical BMWNA only portions... or if they even exist...

Just wondering if this update would include ROMs sent to you for 135s as well as for 335s? I sent my ROM to you last wednesday as well, and was just hoping to get the sucker installed this week. Thank you seņor
