Some advice from the Cobb guys.

"There is a learning curve the ECU needs to have for the first couple of WOT pulls." Its best to log the car after doing a few pulls.

Anymore reviews? Especially those more fortunate than us East coast folks plagued with snow and icy rain?

Alan, its amazing. 2.5 years of searching and way to much money wasted, a tune I am 100% happy with.

Ugh. I got problems. This is on a 2008 135i MT, stage 1 93 OTS. Only supporting mods would be the BMW PE.

WOT third gear pulls give me a very sudden power cut off and slaps the car right into limp mode, half engine light, with a very, very rough idle and renders the car undrivable in that state. Turning off the car and on again regains baseline function. A repeated 3rd gear pull resulted in the same issue. 2nd gear pulls to redline without difficulty. Did not data log, although I really should. It's just that the sudden power cut is somewhat...unnerving.

Using the AP to read the codes yielded the following:

P16b9 (Self-diagnostic engine control unit - control loss of torque - wiring harness, engine control unit)
P2d58 (could not find what this is)

currently I flashed the car back to stage 0 to retain WOT drivability. I do not own a BT tool currently.

ideas?

I'd PM Cobb with that. Don't post it on an open forum, let them deal with it first to see if it's an AP issue or something with your car in particular.

Contact Cobb. Probably some ROM compatibility issue.

I was actually hoping this was possibly a 135 specific issue and seeing if anyone else had this problem (as I know several people are trying it out for the first time tonight with the beta release). Then Clap's post popped up so it's a no go on that. I'll try emailing back to the addy they sent the beta firmware instructions with.

Initial impressions after install

Just thought I'd share what I posted over at 1Addicts, as the COBB topic is much more active over here:

Got my updated ROM today from COBB, an even newer firmware release over last nights major drop. All I can say is WOW! FYI - I'm running the MadDad mids and whisper exhaust on an '08 135 Auto.

Throttle tip-in seems to be greatly improved over the stock BMW map; there doesn't seem to be that initial hesitation when gently rolling on the throttle from a stop. I had the thing in D for the first 10 minutes or so of my inaugural drive, waiting for the motor to warm up. Just rumbling around under 50mph in stop and go traffic, the thing performs great. Very smooth behavior, no jerky-ness at all - should be extremely easy to live with as a daily driven map.

When you get on it, Holy Hell! I've never had a tune on this car before, so the rush of power is crazy exciting. I hopped on the highway, and punched it in 3rd gear at 60...when I looked back down after the initial rush subsided, I was already at 120mph...whoops!

I got a chance to launch from a dig in just DS (w/ DTC off), and spun through second and into third (running on 255 'Kooks in the rear with a ton of tread). I also got on it from 40 and lost traction there.

All in all I'm very impressed and happy with the purchase. Install was a breeze once I got the updated firmware I needed. Hint - unroll your window and do this from outside the car. I walked away and came back about 10 minutes later and it was done. I intend to upgrade the FMIC, and once my warranty goes, will likely go kitty-less DP's. I really like the fact that I can get it properly dyno-tuned at that time; in addition I'm sure there will be some quality maps being shared around.

I can't speak to the other options out there, as mentioned, I've never tried them (or even ridden in a car w/ them). That said, this seems to be a great fit for what I was looking for - a daily driven car with just some extra kick (and I mean extra!). Looking forward to seeing future developments on this and what the true potential might be.

Edit - haven't felt any kind of power drop/stutter when pushing it indicating any kind of overboost abnormalities or anything like that, despite my upgraded exhaust. Will know more when I can do some datalogging and intend to dyno soon. I'm new to tuning and don't know much yet, but am learning a lot reading all the threads.

Finally got support for my ROM.

My car is a 2008 335xi 6MT completely stock. I had to go with the 91 octane map since I don't have access to anything else here.

The flash process was easy and straight forward. Easier than removing my SSTT

The only "problem" was my daytime running lights came on during the backup / flash. This must be an issue specific to Canadian vehicles because we can't turn off the DRL's. The head light switch was set to off and DRL's should only come on when the car is running. But when the restore began the lights came on! Anway I was a little scared of the battery running out but the flash completed

It took a while for the car to adapt. At first the power felt pretty similar to my SSTT but after 5 or 6 WOT pulls and 30km later the car feels like a whole new monster.

The power delivery is very smooth. Feels a lot different than the SSTT where it's on / off. I wish I could of driven more but the temperature is currently -18C and dropping.

Great product, I love it. Can't wait for some warmer weather.

Thanks for posting the reviews! Unfortunately I got the dreaded unsupported rom message tonight after trying to install! Hopefully Cobb can get me up and running soon. Can't wait to try this out

One thing i noticed after flashing my car initially and after updating the map before.

There seems to be a learning curve for the car before things feels perfect. I noticed that right after the install or map update, the first few miles of driving i can almost feel some slight throttle surging under light load. The best way to describe it is when you are on light throttle cruising around and then you let go of the gas completely.....i can feel the car almost still accelerate for a split second even after i'm off the gas. This is under very light throttle driving and i only felt it the first few miles after flashing or updating the map. After driving around this strange feeling just goes away on its own.

Excellent. I don't see it on the website however, only the one for 335i. Also read that It's not recommended tor cars with mod already like DCI, DP, Exhaust. When will you release maps for bolt-ons?

Wilazn,

Thank you for pointing that out. I've updated the webpage.

Stage2 maps and 2007 are currently under development. We have no ETA on availability at this time, but it's being worked on.

Thanks!

I had the exact same experience. After letting off the throttle completely it would continue to pull slightly for about 1/2 a second. It's a weird feeling.

Happens for the first few minutes of driving after the flash or map change. Goes away or back to normal after that.
