I have a 2011 335i xdrive and I've ordered the equipment for installation, I do have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to. How does the fascia come off around the radio head? A picture would be great.

I wrote some details here, but in short:
To remove CIC, first pull start button trim forward a little, then pull vents aft/out, then climate panel aft/out, then cd player trim aft/out, then 4 screws. Note CD faceplate does not come off newer models, only the surround.

One thing I've noticed, the TV works via CIC fine while the car is running off the battery, however when the car is on, and set to TV - I can see the rear camera interfering with the picture - its fighting between the TV and the Rear camera.
It looks like the unit has power even when not in reverse. - Is this normal?

Can anyone offer any advice? should I follow the North America pin-out? (24 and 21)

Coding Used, $3AG to the VO in the CAS and NFRM (no FRM option)
MACRO_PDC

MACRO_REARVIEW

RVC_CIC

MACRO_L6_PARKMENU

I'm using the same emulator as the OP

Thanks in advance!
If anyone could assist it would be greatly appreciated

OP What rear camera trigger wire did you tap into and where?

I got a little further, I reprogramed RVC_CIC to wert_21 as I'm using the European wiring diagram (pins 18/28 as car is from Australia). I can see the rear camera now, except its very poor quality and its also affecting image when the TV when the ignition is on.

I'll check the connections behind the CIC again, I'm assuming its a poor contact.

If anyone can provide any input that would be awesome.

FYI, for anyone in Australia - I used the North American pin outs switched to wert_23 and it now works beautifully.

Hi all,
a got a problem with this retrofit.
I buy emulator and camera from aliexpress, connected all to the car, coding $3AG to the VO in the CAS and NFRM .

In CIC i changed:

MACRO_PDC
aktiv
MACRO_REARVIEW
aktiv
RVC_CIC
wert_23 (pin 21+ , 24-) I also tried wert_21(pin 18 and 28) and wert_22.
MACRO_L6_PARKMENU
aktiv
PDC_DIRECTION
vertikal

and now when i put in reverse a I see PDC (which works fine), menu for control brightness etc (it is greyed out) but no image from camera. Only Black screen.

if I change wert_2x to wert_41 it gives me a green image but now controls is brightness, contrast etc is not greyed out.
I double checked my cables and everything looks fine. The camera was checked on a computer and is working.

My CIC is CIC-MID S606 and the newest software, a week ago i did update with winkfp.

Please for help and sorry for my bad English

Would this harness work?

Does anyone have one they recommend and will work for sure?

Anyone in DFW attempt this?

Also check out this wiring diagram by grzes: http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...3&d=1424898850

3 things are required:
Total Cost ~$130

Reverse camera:
ANY camera will work! But if you want it to look OEM then I recommend getting one that is integrated into the trunk handle. They can be found on ebay for around $50. If you're on a budget, there is also one that is integrated into the license plate light for about half the cost.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/281330142436...84.m1497.l2649
OR
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-1-3-5-X3...item4181bd748f
OR
ANY CAMERA

Reverse camera emulator:
This taps into the cars CANBUS system and fools the navi into thinking that you actually have the required oem hardware. This can also be found on ebay for around $80.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E90-E60-..._Tools&vxp=mtr

Coding
This part not as difficult as it sounds. You'll need to borrow or buy a K-DCAN cable and download a copy of NCS-EXPERT. There is even a software app that another vendor made which will code the CIC module in one mouse click. I will show you how do it without that app because I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate people using it without buying their $500 kit.

STEP 1:

Open box. You can see both the camera/trunk handle and the emulator module here. The ebay seller I purchased from was able to get my package delivered in 4 days with the standard free shipping. Pretty amazing!

STEP 2:

Remove trunk liner using a flat head screw driver. Uninstall existing trunk handle and insert new camera/handle. Fish the wires down one of the support columns underneath the trunk lid.

STEP 3:

Make sure that whatever camera you get has the micro a/v and power connector. Otherwise you'll never be able to get the connectors through the oem flex tube. Even with the micro connector, it required me to use a pull string with lots of dish soap as a lubricant and about three attempts before I was victorious.

STEP 4:
Route the wire from the trunk to behind the dash. I didn't bother taking pictures of this because it's very easy to tuck the wire under the rear seat and passenger door seal. You could also tuck it behind the center console. Doesn't really matter how you get the little cable to the navi.

STEP 5:

Pop out the navi and splice into 4 wires. The colors all match up. Attach the brown and green from the emulator to the brown and green on the navi harness (this is the CANBUS interface). Do the same the red and black (power wires). Lastly. the WHITE wire from the emulator is used to power the camera. So attach that to the cameras RED wire. You'll need to ground the camera at the trunk.

The kit will come with a bare RCA cable that will to be attached to pins 21(+) and 24(-) on the back of the navi unit itself. They just slide on, nothing tricky. I used some shrink tube for protection.

(I'm not going to go into detail on how to remove the navi, there are many other DIYs for that. All you need is a screw driver and about 5 minutes)

STEP 6:
This isn't a coding tutorial so you'll have to be resourceful read one of the million coding DIYs. But nonetheless, you'll need to add option $3AG to the VO in the CAS and FRM modules. This basically changes the original vehicle order configuration to include the back up camera. Next you'll need to enable the feature in the navi computer (CIC module). The values you need to change are as follows:

MACRO_PDC
aktiv
MACRO_REARVIEW
aktiv
RVC_CIC
wert_23
MACRO_L6_PARKMENU
aktiv
PDC_DIRECTION
vertikal

Just an FYI:

I have had a couple installs where the emulator would lag a few seconds when shifting into reverse. I have found that this is because the CAN wires going to the emulator and to the radio are not twisted together tightly.

If your video takes a second or two to appear after you select reverse, check your CAN wires.

I attempted this DIY. However, after trying to code it I kept getting no image even though I heard the backup beeps. I opened the CIC and noticed the yellow wire to Pin #24 snapped off. Now, I get this image:

Is this the cause of my issues? haven't had a chance to code again.

Yes, as those are the video feed wires.

Thanks, I'll give it a try with my old digital camera as well
Do you have a link to the camera you found for £15 by any chance? I'm trying to find one the same with the slim power lead but most of the ones I'm finding are a lot more expensive or have the RCA sized power leads?

So, can you add a camera emulator with a retrofitted CIC (with a PNP emulator)?

Thanks for this, I got the face plate off and installed the wiring harness and camera lead as stated in OPs instructions. I put everything back together and have yet to code it but I had the following caution/warning messages from the car. 4x4 AWD, ABS, DSC and SOS comm fail. The first three cleared after starting car and turning steering whell fully to the left, then to the right for turn sensors to pick up the wheel position, however, I have yet to clear the SOS Comm failure. Any thoughts from anyone as to what is malfunctioning? I assume it has to be something in the rear view camera install as this is the only thing I did. Help!

The more sophisticated Carsystems emulator is probably your best bet. You can even email them to ask about compatibility.

Parents just picked up a 335d and I'd like to retrofit a backup cam. However they do not have PDC, has anyone installed this cam without having PDC from the factory and got it to work? I had no issues installing mine, but I've got PDC from the factory.

Further to my last regarding the SOS fail, I took out the wiring harness and reinstalled radio and everything works so I suspect something in the wiring harness is corrupt. I used the wiring diagram provided by GRZES (3rd Edition) and double checked my connections and they are as he drew. So I'd like to jumper the telecomm pin. but I do not know which one it is. Can anyone help with that, or a wiring diagram I can attempt to decipher at least? I have a '10 335i xdrive, e92. Thanks

Here again hoping someone can chime in, no pun intended! I took the modified wiring harness out and plugged in OEM wiring harness to the back of radio and voila, everything works again. So I have two possibilities, 1, the harness I purchased from Europe is somehow defective, or 2. the SOS comm fault appears because I have not coded car yet. I was going to do this after installation. So, boils down to non-expert here asking forum members if they had experienced this, and will SOS go away after coding or is it my harness?

BTW, I have to learn hope to code yet. Going to use my K-CAN cable and PC computer using NCS Expert. If anyone can point me in that direction I'd appreciate it as well, that is to say, in the how to use that software! Thanks
