This is the first thing I thought about when Jim said "hidden code". Eurobahns claim. If I'm an owner with a DME V81, I don't do anything until this is all figured out.

Am I missing something?
All you need to do is plug this Sharkedit into the OBDII port and flash the ECU with a mapped tune and then unplug the sharkedit thats it? You don't even need to open the hood? |

i'm curious as to how the flash counter is worked around. On my S60R i had an OBD II softloader that i used to restore the ECU to stock for dealer visits to reduce any troubleshooting issues ( that car was a reliability nightmare, nothing to do with the flash counter)
one downside was that if the dealer looked at the flash counter and pulled up the vehicle history, they would not match. the flash counter discrepancy was a dead giveaway, volvo's system had a count of legit flashes, my ECU had quite a few more. it never was a problem though.

How about this question .... the Dinan and EVOtech flashes control the water pump and electric fans ... will this software package be able to control those variables?

So, in further thinking, I still think there will be a market for "tuners" from henceforth.
However, it will be like the Evo world. You pay the tuner, and they email you a map with their best guesses based on your equipment level, desires, etc. If you want harder core tweaking, you can go to the tuner and dyno, and get the tune down personalized and all. So, for the same $1400ish you'd spend on a procede, you are now getting the software, and $1000 worth of tunes from a reliable tuner . For perspecitive, $600 will get you all the tunes you can handle for 6mo from Mellon Tuning, and $350 is a dyno based tune, including dyno time. Hell. Yea. That is all... -Adam |

Excellent, although if there are folks breaking 1024 bit encryption, it won't surprise me to see unscrupulous types trying to sell pirated copies. If you have a system to prevent this

my guess i the shark injector will be like the COBB tune, plug into the OBDII port, inject the map/flash, and your car is ready to go.
the SHARK edit will be for more tuners, who make maps and custom tunes for customers using there lab top and the shark edit to get into the DME. you use the shark edit to upload the flash and or custom tune. who the custom tuner will be, is very important, i see things go downhill in the sti tunning world from this. this is what it sounds like coming from the tunning world. i will be waiting for the shark injector if any, less hassle, pre made maps usually from the maker, easy upload and unload, handheld, usually. so will the shark edit work with the new v29.2 software/ DME v81 |

haha seriouslly. a 100 bucks is nothing now that i think about it. If anything ill stick with the jb for a while since newer and better things are constantly coming out. And since i have the old dme not the 81, im not worried about that.
sorry guys, just trying to calm my self. |

If this works out to be what I think it is, its going to be amazing. I am curious about the logging software, if any, that will be available or packaged with the tuning software.
Tuned my own GT35R Evo, looking forward to tuning the BMW!

During the vacation, I won't be reading the boards multiple times per day, so my sanity will remain intact. The rest of you poor slobs however, without such a distraction, are going to be going Nuckin' Futz between now and then....

I would normally agree with if it was pre a license agreement but in this case there is none or one implied so IP rights were lost as soon as it was sold. I am sure some will match it the hard way but it not something I am going to do. Orb |
