I mentioned this in the Vishnu intake thread, but I want to get Rick's/BMS' perspective on this as well before I make a decision. My car right now is bone stock, and at most will have a very mild tune in the future (e.g., SSTT + exhaust). I like the Helene filter a lot because it meets/exceeds OEM filtration requirements and is specifically engineered for the N54. I take it as a given that the filter element in the Helene is decidedly superior to the filter element in the BMS Dual Cone or in the Vishnu Dual Cone.
My invitation for a sales pitch, then, is as to why the dual cone setup's inherent layout/volume advantages outweigh the advantages of a specially-engineered filter element in the stock airbox? Thanks again.

Stock airbox is very restrictive, so a drop in can only do so much.
With these filters, you get a ton more surface area. The helene is a nice filter, but it is not an intake kit, it just goes in your factory airbox. thats really the biggest difference. for mild tunes, there isnt much of a HP difference, but dual cones will give you much better turbo sounds, and will free up any restriction. To be blunt, and not be a "salesman"... at low HP levels, stock, or other mild tunes... dual cones are pretty much eye/ear candy... Quote:

Also... for the people that asked, right now on these filters domestic standard shipping is 14 bucks and international shipping is 24 bucks.
for standard shipping we ship USPS priority for 2-3 day service in the US, and 5-8 days internationally... we also offer next day for an upcharge. Last edited by RiXst3r; 06-13-2008 at 11:04 PM.. |

so the dual cone intake will produce a louder turbo spooling sound than the single cone filter system? I thought the video clips were the same for both on the website?

Sorry I don't have the time or patience to read the whole thread.
WHAT is the difference between this and Shiv's dual cone besides price?? Honestly The price is certainly very competitive. |

That is a great price. Props to Terry for bringing a kit like this to market without the usual price gouging. Contrary to what some people think, there is no marvel "engineering" involved in this. Just convenience and a fair price. For the amount you would save on a DIY, its not worth the time of most people if you can just buy the kit for $129. FYI, if you recall, Terry already said the reason he brought this out was not because his original product was inferior, but rather to offer people more choices to fulfill their preferences. And bringing good performing products at the lowest prices is something we can always applaud Terry for, its good competition for all of us enthusiasts.

The claimed 2%/3% increase in dyno'd hp/torque for this product seems well within the margin of error. I'm also having a hard time intuitively understanding the claimed benefit of removal of the "restriction" in the current air flow since it's ram-air, and isolates the air from what we all know is a very hot engine compartment. Also, how did you simulate the ram-air affect for the dyno? Any other empirical evidence of improved performance? Intercooler in/out air temps? Radiator temps? Track times? This sort of modification makes me nervous unless it is well understood what the impact is on the entire system. Brian.

Which intake is louder, the single or dual? I love the sound of my single BMS intake but would switch if the "dual" intake is louder.

This is funny if it's on purpose.
How many kits are left in this wave? I'm indecisive.
