I'll post a proper write-up later, but just a quick summary: for anyone considering replacing their Clutch Delay Valve, I would say - Just Do It!

Thanks again, Ant. can't imagine anyone having the CDV replaced and then wanting to reverse the procedure. It makes the clutch in your E90 work like, er, a clutch!

It makes perfect sense! Plus the action of the clutch pedal, particularly when you release it, is smoother and much less stiff.

The guy from Elms told me its a software fix in March early April.

i said so you put that in writing to me and ill hold you to it ....he said why..i said cos if my clutch blows up ill f**king hang u from the ceiling...he said..mmm fair enough,although in fairness he did say they are very aware and in these cases they wouldnt hold any recall problems given there research and development grounds on this problem.

Took mine in to the Dealer earlier in the week. The 'official' line was that BMW are aware that there are some cars with these symptoms and that it is a 'characteristic' of the clutch having a dual mass flywheel! They also said it would do it when the clutch got hot but I explained to them that it will do it on a stone cold morning. Oh - and as expected, they couldn't actually reproduce it anyway!

The main thing for me was that they confirmed there is nothing actually faulty with the clutch and it wasn't about to blow.

If I'm up near Ant's neck of the woods, I may pop in for a CDV change but to be honest, I've learnt to live with it now and can quite easily avoid the judder without too much compromise.

Interestingly, the 320i courtesy car had a clutch that was as light as a feather compared with mine - although that was on an 08 plate.

Does anyone have an update on if this actually is a software fix? I think mine is also doing it, but only really seems noticable when its damp in the air/havent driven my car for a couple of days.

Well the last I've heard is that BMW are releasing a software update to fix the problem which should be out sometime within the next 3 months. CDV replacement is also an option, however I did ask a dealer and they did say that any clutch problems in the future would not be covered by warranty.

My Car had a new Clutch after 10,000 miles and see my post http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=259681 for the full story.
I was told (off the record) that initially there was a software update to fix the problem but they still put the clutch on anyway.
After my car spending 6 days in the dealers I think there is something else happening that they are not telling us. God only knows what will happen when the warranty runs out

Well, just took the car in for a brake fuild change, and mentioned the clutch judder. The dealer has said that there is one present and that they need to take the gear box off to have a look. They have said ill be charged if it is missue of the clutch (by the way car has 24252 miles, and had 21363 on it when I purchased it in March this year), or may be a warranty issue.

I have spoke with customer services and they have said that the gear box needs to come off and they will assess what goes on from there.... looks like a bit of catch 22.

Not a happy bunny as I mentioned this to the BMW sales guy a week after purchase (who has now left) and was told it was a 'normal' thing on the diesels in the damp mornings :S

I recon that is why I got my problem. BMW Ireland showed me on the computer that the car had a new clutch fitted at 10k miles. I would be weary of the dealer taking off the clutch....keep an eye out for oil on your drive!

I know this might sound like a dumb question, but what colour will the oil be?. When I pulled out my drive this morning there was a puddle of clear liquid (with no smell to it) in roughly the same area as the gear box would be. It may have been from when they washed it, or from when it rained etc...

Would be ranging from sunflower oil to black, should be very light if they've just changed it. Won't be completely clear.

My one is still doing the judder. Dealer and I agreed not to change it, as it will just do it again 3000 miles later. Hopefully one day they will cure it fully. Until then, I will just live with it.

Hi i would say that the clutch judder is due to the duel mass flywheel i had this problem on my 05 320D. i took it to the main dealer and they replaced the clutch and flywheel under warranty. so i would take the car back to the dealer and say it's got worse they would have to investigate and it shouldn't cost you anything if under warranty. hope this has helped.

I was told the same thing by my dealer, however it was followed up by a comment saying that BMW are working on a software update which will fix the problem
