When I brought my 335i to a BMW official assistance for a star diagnosis they couldn't see the V3 though it was plugged in and running........

Shiv, the other thread is refuting the V3 down low power. Could it be because they are not comparing to the pre-beta maps you recently developed, or is it that dyno does not say the whole story? Sorry if this is OT. And no flaming please everyone, I am just curious. Thanks.

Not the same map. Those mentionned on n54 are the actual beta map everyone is running.
This one here is the new just a few people are running.

Aside from not being the newest maps, those are also v81/29.2+ maps... Each tuner has their own idea of what is "safe" for v81... shiv likes to take the safe approach, and ramp it up slowly as time goes on, and it proves itself to be safe, this is why v3 almost always shows a little less tq on the dyno with doomsday maps... but the dyno doesn't tell the whole story. The reason there is less tq on the v81 dynos with the v3 is because its been mapped that way on purpose, not because the procede "can't do it" or something... its just a choice in mapping to preserve what each tuner thinks is safe. -Rick |

That's what counts, and most important of all such "review" should be done by a motor enthusiast which is not on anybody's (JB ore V3) payroll. Period

SHIV or RICK, does this mean MSD81 people (doomsday maps) are either taking a hit or will not enjoy the same benefits of these new rev II maps?

I can chime on this one...Shiv claims to have a "solution" for doomsdayers that will allow full power. Last I heard this should be ready now...maybe he can give us an update.

That JB3 map doesn't look like it has much of a chance at being 29.2+ compliant. It seems it was made for other reasons. Which is reasonable considering it's being run in Terry's car. It would be interesting to see if that map is actually provided to 29.2/MSD81 users who actually care about diagnostic invisibility. But to be fair, once you start adding the associated mods (FMIC, catless dps, etc,.) I'm not sure how realistic it is to stay "under the radar" As for the beta maps floating around right now, they are almost all 29.2+ specific. Simply because it's easier to develop them for now (on my MSD81-equipped car) and add low end torque/boost later on than visa versa. Still, If gotta pretty fond of limiting torque to 340-360lbft dow low for a number of reasons: 1) Easier to get traction 2) Easier on the transmission 3) Feels subjectively nicer to have power "swell" as revs rise 4) Makes the car more resistant to knock since it isn't bumping against the knock threshold from 3000rpm on up. Making big low end/midrange torque is purely academic. But for the reasons above, it isn't a priority right now. And so far, no one has complained of lack of grunt. Heck, I ran a 11.8 at nearly 119mph with that map on my car. Seems pretty fun to me. Also, it should be noted that the two tunes are approaching the whole power response thing from to different angles. One approach is to give it a lot of torque at WOT (as seen on a dyno). The other approach is to control the rate and consistency of the airflow consumption during during sudden throttle opening. All the new pre-beta stuff that Mote, Rixst3r, SFValley335i, Onefastdoc, etc,. are testing make less low end dyno torque than counterpart JB3 tunes. But yet set still manage to pull harder, more consistently and just feel generally better. And that is what it is all about, no? My idea of performance driving isn't sticking it in 4th gear at 2000rpm and riding it out until redline at WOT. Shiv Last edited by OpenFlash; 11-26-2008 at 01:03 PM.. |
