This has helped me in the past as well, I think sometimes the adaptation need to be done a couple of times. From my experience thus far, I think tunes have some correlation with the adaptations being bit more finicky. So if you are tuned and you are getting some of these mis-fires after the replacement of coils, plugs and injectors, def try re-setting adaptations. And if the mis-fires try doing it 1-2 more times. This has helped me in the past. |

UPDATE
I was on my way for holidays, and when accelerating in 4th entering the German highway I felt vibrations, engine light starts burning, engine misfiring, no way to keep speed so had to pull over to the emergency lane. I was so pissed, still am. Spent hours waiting for a technician to arrive, and of course the poor guy could do anything. But BMW assist didnot want to sent a tow truck straight away, as the protocol says a BMW technician has to have a look and see if can fix it. He run the test and again... Misfiring cylinder 6. GREAT. After replacing the pump twice in a week, and all the other stuff, still the same problem. The tech which came told me had several cases before and it seems a standard procedure which they have to follow. He says that in the end he replaced the DME and then it was fine. But BMW does not allow this to be changed before replacing all the other parts. Let's see what me service manager says tomorrow. The really annoying thing this time is that I had a nice weekend planned at the Ring which is gone now. Friends of me are already there. So pissed off at the moment by the way, the problem only occurs when the car is warm, cold it is running fine. |

I can imagine a these kind of issues have let to very unpleasant moments for the drivers. e.g. driving on a bridge or tunnel and suddenly the car start misfiring, engine light goes on, and you are not able to maintain speed. you just get slower and slower and you have no where to go.... I as lucky the issues happened on locations where it was fairly easy to stop on the emergency lane or driveway. Don't want to think about the mess and stress when it would happen in a tunnel without any emergency lanes!

Hello. I have a general question. How many miles do you guys have on your vehicles that are missing? Also did they ever pull the intake mainifold off to see if the intake ports are clogged with sludge? They way the crankcase ventilation is set up it dumps oil onto hot exhuast valves and since the motor is direct injected there is nothing to clean off the valves. I am not saying this is the problem but i have seen this alot. Just trying to help.

Sorry to hear, it really sucks al those issues. The DME replacement helped for me.... not sure what could be the cause, I'm an industrial software engineer, my expectations would be that if a DME would be the cause men would have more issues then just an instable cylinder 6... Interesting thing to mention: My unrepairable idle missfire issue was also for cylinder 6, they have done everything to get it fixed, in the end they blamed my Procede harnass, but they agreed to replace the DME outside my warranty period and it did improve the engine idle mode.... Fingers crossed!

I'm currently talking with BMW about buying my car back and getting me into a 535i. Had the exact same problem you did and they even had an engineer from Germany personally look at my car and they still couldn't figure out the problem. My car has been at the dealership for over a month and a half. Hopefully BMW does the right thing for you like they're doing for me. Good luck.

I don't think you should lose your hope just yet. Let them change your DME.

I am running jb3 and meth. Anytime I spray at low rpm the car shutters and check engine light comes on. Dealer just replace HPFP, 6 injectors, 6 plugs. Has been moving the coils, plugs and injectors and problem started in # 2 and he moved that injector to #5. Car ran fine for a day and then missed in #5 after adaptations were allowing the car to really start to pull hard. I have been more than patient with this car and the dealership is starting to worry about working on a tuned car which they blessed off on before they began. I asked about Lemoning the car and the said that BMW would discover the tune and void my warranty as well. I need a miracle!!

was at the dealer today and talked to the head of service. They do not know what the issue is and do not get any support from BMW. They where told to search. WTF. The whole history of my car is now escalated with a request for compensation / change. Let's see what happens. My dealership is very supportive up till now. |

At least you have a supportive dealership, which in my book is rather the exception than the rule. Alpina_B3_Lux

So, I was waiting for BMW to swap out the bad injector they installed and BMWNA told my dealership that they do not send out bad injectors and it was impossible that my new injector was bad, even though when we move the injector the miss follows it???? The Foreman went to bat for me and had the dealership pay for the replacement and overided BMW's final decision. The new injector is in place and the missfire is gone for now. I recently had my ECU reprogrammed at another dealership and that seems to be part of the chain of events similar to others having this problem. I pray that this is the final solution. Dealership also said that if the check engine light comes back on that I may need to bring it somewhere else a this point. ( This dealership has replaced the turbos, injectors, plugs, and fuel pump) They are afraid that if BMW finds some tune codes that they will have to pay for all of that work. All these symptoms occur when the car is in stock trim but I guess thats besides the point. I really hope bmw was wrong and is infact having a problem with new injectors going out. There is some speculation that they may be mislabeled. I am so glad I had the foreman on my side here as BMW was going to send me home with a misfiring car and pretend it was ok. I too will seriously consider making this my last BMW but I will be buying from this dealership as they have been outstanding throughout this whole process. Maybe I can pick up a nice Lexus that someone traded in on a new 335.
