Correct for the 335i. The last I read in Bimmer was that the 328 would get a GM transmission, but this certainly may have changed.

..."Our freshly minted 3 Series twin-turbo coupe has not only eclipsed BMW's own impressive performance figures — by a ton — it's also smoked those of the 2005 BMW M3 Competition Package, a car we called "The Best M3 Ever Sold in America." And while that admittedly turbo-deprived car had been a six-speed manual, the Arctic Metallic 2007 BMW 335i Coupe cooling in the driveway is but an automatic. Nothing about our Austrian First Drive of the car prepared us for this.

More than half fast
Consider the facts: This 2007 BMW 335i test car blazed from zero to 60 in 4.8 seconds. BMW says the new coupe mit twin-turbo engine and Steptronic six-speed autobox should make that trip in 5.5 seconds. Seven-tenths of a second quicker? That's 13-percent better than BMW's claim. Folks give aftermarket tuners wads of cash for that kind of performance bump, especially when a car starts out in the mid 5s to begin with.

Our 335i similarly scalded the quarter-mile in 13.3 seconds at 105.9 mph. For comparison, our 2005 M3 Competition Package used up 5.5 seconds getting to 60 and finished the quarter-mile in 13.7 seconds at 105.4 mph — close, but still a rearview-mirror performance. We almost beat the all-powerful 2007 Audi RS4, too. Despite a 120-horsepower advantage and all-wheel-drive launch superiority, it just nicked our 335i's 0-60 and quarter-mile times by a paltry 0.1 second each"....

Keep it up boys...
lol. That's a horrible review. 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and 1/4 mile in 13.7 at 105.4mph? LOL. My M3 does 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.9 at 109.6mph, and it's pretty much stock.

Car and Driver tested the E46 M3 at 4.7 seconds and Road & Track tested it even at 4.6 seconds.

Ahhh I don't even like talkin about .2 second differences from magazines... but its just to prove a point.

And didn't BMW NA state the 335i at 5.5 seconds? And 90% of the reviews from other Auto journalists at 5.2?

I will say your 109.7 trap is the exception, not the norm. Either you got yourself a ringer or the CAI and wheels made a big difference. Either way I wouldn't complain. Great time/trap for a near stock E46 M3.

My M3 trapped 200 in the 1/8 and then the parachute came out and slowed me down. Just kidding.

Not sure of the legitimacy of his numbers, but they'd be impressive for a stock M3.

Dude grow up, even if his numbers are a little on the optimistic side, still, it is not impossible...calling someone out like this is immature

That's a vid of an M3 doing 12's with suspension and nothing else major...

Good track prep.

His trap time is kinda low for those numbers. 12.6 @ 106?

He must have pulled a 1.6 60 foot or somthing

I would expect that trap time for an evo or another awd car, but even then thats really low

I left that site because of childish kids that post there all the time...

What i'm saying is, maybe if his numbers are a little too good to be true, doesn't mean they are impossible...and this is the internet, EVERYONE lies about their cars and penis size...still, some deserve the benefit of the doubt...

Lee's car had been lightend up. He had a very aggressive launch and powershifted. The key is his trap speed. Its stock speed. He gained all of his time in the first 330.

To run 109.7 (lets call it 110) will take about 30-40 more hp than to run 106. Or 100 lbs per mph. Considering Lees car is probably lighter than M3tor2nR's, you have to be making some serious power to trap 110.

Also, looking back at some of his fastest times when hit 12.40s, his car was near 3000 lbs with 4.10 gears on drag radials and trapping 109.4.

That is harsh. I don't think anyone intended for the 335i to be an M3 crusher. I guess automotive media pushed the issue. They are two different cars designed with two different agendas. Both are great cars. Most 335i owners just want to maximize the potential of their car, just like a lot of guys with M3s.
