Marin Logan is my fav but I am not dropping that much money since my whole house is wired for sound an I have speakers and TVs up the ass. Bose is great for my use but it's not he best yet I am quite happy with it. My brother had meridian and it sounds fantastic.

That really makes perfect sense because a bad ECM tune or one that pushes the parts to their limits can cause premature failures and a manufacturer shouldn't be responsible for what someone else did. Now Dinan is aware of this fact and that if a failure does occur during the warranty period they will have to pay for it. That's part of the reason their tunes are set at "safe" levels and also why other tuners products can produce higher numbers than Dinan's. They are trying to produce some level of improved performance without stressing the parts at their peak levels in order to maintain reliability. BMW does the same thing, you can buy Sport packages and improved tunes from them on some models that are slightly more than stock, but not quite as much as Dinan's or other aftermarket tuners. They're keeping theirs at really safe levels because they still honor the warranty. Now what that also means is if your dash is cracking, your AC compressor fails, or your power seat stops working your warranty with BMW is still valid for those types of items. They don't throw the entire warranty out the window, but almost anything on the powertrain could be "blamed" on a tune. So it makes sense that if a customer has a tune in the ECM other than BMW's and they know it, then they are not going to allow you to purchase a certified warranty from them after the fact. No car company will if it's not their approved product. So you would lose out on about two more years of coverage and about 40K miles worth through BMW, but as mentioned there are other aftermarket warranties available if you want to keep the vehicle beyond 4/50 and they will probably also offer longer coverage than the two remaining years that BMW would with CPO. (CPO is a max of 6 yrs and 100K miles from original inception date, not when you buy the CPO) As the old saying goes "If you want to play, then you'll have to pay" The more you Mod, then more you spend and the greater risk you take on that something will fail and you get to spend more money fixing it. Each owner has to decide the level of risk they wish to take on if they want to mod their vehicle beyond stock performance. As someone else here said the best bet is probably to purchase the Dinan upgrades through a local approved Dinan authorized BMW dealership because they would already have a working relationship with Dinan in case of any problems and would work things out amongst themselves, plus they were the shop that sold and installed those upgrades so they carry some responsibility as well.

You can go to dinancars.com and read about their Stage 2 tune info. It says itself that the warranty does not go along with CPO. As to whether BMW will or won't CPO your car afterwards, that's unconfirmed. But as for Dinan themselves, they will only match 4-year/50k, and that's it.

Has anyone here actually had the Dinan Stage II installed on their N55? I am looking for feedback. I had Dinan on my e46 M3 and was very pleased with its performance and longevity. I would like to wait to see what Cobb can produce. I know that Active Autowerkes is working on a flash whereby I can have it done locally as opposed to having to send them my ecu. Anyone go the AA route and like it?

Now, I assume that if you drive to your BMW dealer to have them flash the tune, they'll have your VIN. Then whatever the dealer/BMW does with that info is up to them??? I went to Budd's BMW in Oakville the other day and had the Dinan Stage II software tune done on my 2011 335i 6MT sedan. All I can say is wow!!!!!!!
I wasn't interested in a piggyback solution, Cobb doesn't appear anywhere in sight, Active Autowerkes isn't cheap and you have to send them your ecu. The fact that I had this done at and by a BMW dealership made me feel even better. As far as the price is concerned, I had no issues paying the bill. Keep in mind boys, we all are used to paying a premium price already since we own BMW's! The way I looked at it, Active Autowerkes is charging $1100 for their tune, Turner is up there as well, Cobb would move certaintly be up in that range as well, so basically I paid an additional amount to ensure I never had a warranty issue. That additonal cost is basically one visit so no big deal. I was shocked by how hard the car pulls. For the record, I also have a 2010 M3 that I put most of my focus and money towards. But I wanted my daily driver to be able to go hard and this tune does that and more. engine engagement is smoother, the low end torque is undeniable. Very noticable difference from my M3 in a positive way. I don't plan to track the 335 nor test its time. The combination of this Dinan tune and the BMW Performance Exhaust makes this car able to rival any minivan momma out there! |
