probably going to need to have a large enough numbers of oil to be tested at the same milage to find out the dilution. A single test on one guy's car hardly makes a statistical analysis.

If its fuel getting past the rings then how well the rings seated originally(ie. break in) seems to be of an issue too then. Anyways interesing information but not enough test results to backup any claims yet.

Google Blackstone Labs. They'll send you a kit for free, analysis is about $25. Waiting for my kit to arrive.

Probably. They send out the collection kit for free (give them 2 weeks). Standard Analysis is $22.50. Dyson Analysis package costs $60.

Anyone know if this one is "standard"?

So trust me when i say Motul 300V, Castrol Edge, and Shell Helix.
Do these oils contain Polyol Ester base stocks?

For those that care…. This is the Dyson analysis from my leased and now sold 335i. I’m currently breaking in the new 335i.

These results are surprisingly good. Your type of driving will obviously have a significant impact on how your oil holds up. I’m pretty easy on oil because 80-90% of my driving is on my 35 mile (each way) freeway commute where the engine is always allowed to come to temperature. I have very few short trips. I push the car around town, on weekends and track days but this kind of mileage makes up a relatively small percentage of my overall mileage. Those with short or harder commute conditions certainly wouldn't want to go past 7,500. Given my car sees a fair amount of track days I will change the oil every 5k miles, more frequently if Terry Dyson says it’s necessary. We’ll see how GC works after I get the current car broken in.

High iron, copper and aluminum are expected for a new engine with no previous oil changes. Also, there was 1 qt of make-up oil added at ~3,500 miles which helped with fuel dilution and flash. Fuel dilution was only 1.2% and flash pretty stable at 330. The oil did shear down to a 20w at V40C. The TBN was 3.2 suggesting the additive pack was pretty much shot and the oil definitely needed to be changed (Dyson’s opinion).

Dyson Analysis: in my opinion it is worth the extra cost. Terry provides an MP3 in addition to a PDF file discussing the results. He makes suggestions on oil types and suggests an appropriate course of action if there are problems.

Yeah, oil looks good at almost 10,000mi. No tracking or drag strip, however. 15% city, 85% hwy miles @ 21MPG. Oil temps averaged about 245F. Never had to add oil, BTW.

Just changed mine a few days ago... Got a sample to send to Blackstone which has 6k miles on it, and 7k miles on the engine (1st change at 1k miles). Will report results when I get them back...

Too early to tell. Like others have said. Blackstone Labs might have an answer, but I would bet they have insufficient data as well.
The 335i just hasn't been out long enough.

I have my first oil change at 3 months and 3,500 miles of normal (only) city/highway driving and had the oil analyzed I posted the results in another thread as I had forgotten about this one, so I am including them here also for ease of reference:

If you can still see through it when you change it, you're changing it too early.
