So £250 + £100 fuel still makes DW cheeper. I suggest you call them and book in. There is always a wait..

Time wise chaps we are looking at a good 4 hours labour this can and I can only apologise for this in advance can go on for 5 hours, for most of the ones we've done(mine have been on/off twice now) the time taken tondo the job is covered by the times above.

We charge £65 plus VAT and I'll be discussing the why and where forces with the owner tomorrow re this and the walnut blasting as well.

On the transmission fluid side of things we're fully covered on this department and have a drum of the stuff in stock sumps I can order via chassis numbers if required.

I've replie to a couple of you who've kindly sent a PM over time frame we are seriously busy as Amit who visited me last Saturday can vouch for but I'd love to be able to get a few of you through the food with a deal do such, but although I'd love to do something final say goes to the owner but I'll do all I can.

Cheers

Steve

78 x 5 =£390.
Quite a lot for a downpipe swap out.
It's not an easy job by a long stretch but 5 hours is a bit fruity for an experienced outfit.
Im a big believer in going where you know, though. And if Old Grey Steve is a safe bet, then it could be worth while.

My garage is now experienced with the job and can take 4-5 hours as well to get them to fit perfect.

Does sound a lot when you look at figures but if you put the stopwatch on the procedure then the figures I've quoted are on the money, mine as an example differed because the first time all the bolts were obstructive, the second time they came off things were easier in this department, but with lack of space and a tech sweating and scraping his knuckled every so often you're right it ain't easy.

However if it can be done any cheaper then off course the figure will be as you'd guess less, likewise the labour rate itself, but as I may stated its something that I will have a chat about during today to see something can be put in stone re rates and cost for this procedure

What's your process Steve?
Do you support the engine from above and remove the front subframe and steering rack out of the way?
I can't see how it can take 5 hours the second time round. I had it done in less than 2 and watched every step. Granted, DW have probably done more than most and have it down to a tee.
Not knocking the lads or owt, I'm sure they are very capable, just trying to help out.

All I can say is we've done a few this is the time scale we've seen, granted I suppose other can do it quicker if you've seen it done quicker point taken but all I can say is time wise if it takes this sort of time to do it right then that's the time it'll take and be charged at.

What I would say having spoken to my tech Alan is that my VRSF pipes are slightly larger than other makes its the room needed to get to the brackets/bolts that creates the issues other pipes are slightly narrower which would mean time wise you could chip away at the time to a degree.
