If anybody has had further contact like this please post the outcome. I want to be prepared for whatever she comes back with.
I got another call from BMW USA today. They offered to sell me the Gold extended warranty for 1/2 price. I don't see anywhere in the extended warranties that emissions equipment are covered. I'll have to find out the cost of that option and make sure i understand what is not covered.

I'm still leaning toward the Ecotune and Iaknown options...
Looking at the platinum package warranty offered by dealer. When I asked if nox sensors covered, he said he'd ck. and call me back. Called back and said if it's a mechanical problem it's covered. When i pressed him on what that meant, he didn't seem too sure. I pressed him further and he seemed to agree with me on that if a fault on the nox caused the ses light to go off, then it would be covered. But I'm very leery if it's not specifically listed on what's covered.

A salesman will tell you anything to make you buy his stuff.

If you don't read the fine print, it's your fault.

Just remember if something goes wrong wile under warranty, all work must be approved by the underwriting company, not the salesperson.

yeah. I'm a little leery of these warranties as they do not specifically list what's covered. when I called Automotive Warr. Service of FL, the administrators of the The Mechanic Plan offered at the dealer and asked them if "nox" sensors are covered he said they fall under Silver Plan #9 electrical "knock sensor and oxygen sensor" and he said the wheel speed sensor falls under #11 Gold Plan Anti-lock bake system. However, I feel more comfortable seeing the actual and specific part listed. I know that would be hard for them to do. It's all a crap shoot.

I called again today and this time I opened a formal complaint about the car.
I don't know what they called it prior this time today.

I am now the owner of a BMW Gold extended warranty, 7 years/100,000 miles. It was offered to me at 1/2 cost (not retail price). Total with tax was about one thousand five hundred dollars.

Was outside of original warranty when i made the purchase (~52,000 mi). Dealer had to work the mileage thing with BMW Finance directly but was not an issue in my case.

it took almost 2 months to get from hearing about the offer to completing it.

The only reason it took (only) two months is that BMW NA would do nothing for the dealer unless i called them and was very assertive with them.

The other thing that happened within those 2 months was a SES light came on. Dealer is replacing NOX sensor under the Gold Warranty. Dealer and BMW knew about the light before the warranty was purchased so i'm lucky on that.

In hindsight: 1) the email I sent (copied in this thread) started the ball rolling, 2) BMW NA will do nothing unless you stay on top of them, 3) Service manager needs to want to work with you/for you/on your behalf (mine was great), 4) i would negotiate for better than 1/2 off.

As I've mentioned, warranty expired this past march and few problems till then. Then like they flipped a switch, a nox sensor and a wheel speed sensor goes bad- about an 1800 dollar fix if I remember correctly. Wrote an email and talked to bmwna and matts assistant and they say that's normal. Now this past week an oxygen sensor goes bad. What a joke and this mileage and age of car. Really, that's normal?

Sorry to say, but YES, its a BMW, one reason why being able to work on the car yourself becomes a huge advantage...

No doubt and I don't mind doing that-but I didn't buy this kind of car expecting to do that. For a premium price I would think that a car should last more than 4 years and 30k miles before spending thousands on repairs.

FWIW I have the OEM Extended warranty (gold) and I've had NOX sensors (all of them), SCR catalyst, DEF tank, pumps, etc, and DEF fluid all replaced under warranty.

Unfortunately it is normal for BMW to crap out after the normal warranty expires.

Joe, I recommend BMW cars to everybody I know.

What other brand offers you a new car every month to drive around? None.

That's awesome. It's too bad the 335d is so fun the drive when it's driving as all the other loaners I drove felt boring in comparison.

Sent email today about my concerns with CBU and asked how they are addressing the root cause. I will let you know when/if they respond.
