I'm just very hesitant about the fact that the car has no warranty at all.
Not sure how much BMW will charge for extended warranty.

If I add the cost of the warranty, the cost will be pretty much similar to what a CPO car go for at the dealer.

The problem is that I only have till tomorrow to decide.
There are lots of 335s out there. I wouldn’t be rushed to buy. I'd wait for my CPO'd 335i/xi. You may even want to consider leasing a newer vehicle.

I'd save the dough and get a used base C6 Grand Sport. Tons of power, Z16 and Z52 performance package standard. Many many aftermarket options.

agree with ken... how did taxes become so much?? what other fees do you need to pay?

The C6 Z06 is out (LS7 engine) because of potential catastrophic valve issue. I can only afford a used one and no warranty is not an option, due to this issue. The ZR1 is not in my budget either. Which leaves the regular vette, which I agree could be an option, but if I need to mod those for brakes, suspension etc. it becomes less interesting, unless I get one for next to nothing.

Why the Z06? It is the twitchiest of the lot. You'll have more than a handful with just the C6. The LS3 is pretty good engine. Coupled with the dry sump, upgraded brakes and suspension from the Z16 package and Z52 package (std on the Grand Sport) you are good to go. I forgot to mention it also steals some of the Z06 chassis bits. Get the base 1SA and replace the seats with nice ones.

Why z06? It is the best suited for track, lightweight aluminum frame, 31xx lbs, whereas the ZR1 having same frame but with supercharget etc is 150 lbs heavier, but have more hp and is also a little heavier up front. Base C6 frame is steel, therefore also 33xx lbs.

So Z06 is track king: 2012 Z06 was only 2 seconds slower than a ZR1 on the Ring, where the latter has 135 hp more. Can we agree that it is impressively little difference over a 7'20" lap time? Same driver btw. Also ZR1 carries a $30k premium, new. You can get a used low mileage Z06 for $40-50k. Used ZR1 starts around 75k up to over $100k.

But base vette with track option is an option I will contemplate, no hurry though. I figure there are a lot of those around

Hello there. Went to dealer for some software update this morning. Saw a drop dead gorgeous 335xi MSport in Estoril blue. Absolutely great looking car.

Anyways, happy new year.

Ken what is this I read about a track only car? If serious, have you considered a Lotus. They're not as powerful but handle like go carts and are cheaper than the more finicky handling Vette

if you got a 1 or 2 yr old z06, you should still have enough warranty to make sure that there are no issues with the car.

i still dont think there's a perfect track car that doesnt need extra service to keep it running well on the track. even race cars need an engine rebuild every now and then. if you want an all out track car that you dont need to do a single mod on, then i guess its time to go for a 911 Cup car, but then it wont be street legal.

ZR1 is not a good choice for the track. its heavier and was designed more for straight line speed than for handling. also i would think a supercharged car would have more over heating issues on the track in the long run.

i am not saying its not fast but i think being supercharged, it would probably be more prone to over heating if pushed on the track lap after lap. super charger also means more moving parts to go wrong. most GT track cars are naturally aspirated.

superchargers are awesome for the street though. they would have zero issues on regular back road driving. and they'll make more low down torque so that'll be a big plus when launching the car on the street.

I kind of forgot this option, thank you for reminding. Now can we put an LS3 engine in that sucker?

I agree it's ultimately faster, in the hands of an expert driver. Not sure for the ordinary folk like me

Thing is as Chris mentions, it will carry much higher speed into entry of the next curve, therefore needs more braking and with more front weight bias, could even mean slower exit speed than a z06. So convinced the z06 won't be too far behind, while being easier to handle. Slower tracks may even give the z06 the advantage.....

But to be clear, BOTH cars are pure animal on track, really
I rode in a C5 vette once at Calabogie and that thing was like strapping an effing jet reactor to your ass!

to be honest a base vette would also be an animal... the only thing you need on a base vette is some upgraded brakes and coilovers...

oh and roll bar with race seats..

Ha ha! yes, I think the LS3 engine came in 2008 or 2009, I'll do some searches soon. 30k-40k would be great.
