I've wondered that my self. In forums and in the manual, it says don't do it too often (but I have no idea if often is once per day or 50 a day). I try to control myself mainly to save my rear tires

I only do it very rarely, maybe once a week on average. I find launching manually to be much more fun though (or mix up the 1st gear LC with manual shifts after 2nd).
Haha I feel you. Doesn't the car have to be in manual though?

Yeah. But even in Manual (even in Launch Control), the transmission will auto shift once hit you hit redline (in in LC, it will shift for you at the right times).

I got a 2011 335i M sport sedan with the N54 while I was living in Germany, what's the difference between the 335is? Sorry for the noob question but I just got back to the states and haven't done much research on the 335is.

Actually it's the other way around.. the 335is has N54 and the regular 335i has N55

JunkStory is correct.

BMW is using the term TwinPower in a rather confusing way. MY2011, TwinPower on the 335i means the single twinscroll turbo on a N55 engine, while on the 335i it means the traditional two turbo N54 engine.

This may only be North America, but the only cars with the N54 for 2011 are the 335is, Z4 sDrive35is, and the new 1M.

Yea the newer 335I has a N55 twin scroll turbo

The 335IS has a modified N54T twin turbo much like the original N54.

If I remember correctly, they produced these unofficially. In other words, the color was always available (late availability) but it was never shown on the BMWUSA website under build your own and don't know why. I found out about this cuz I sell BMW's for a living and stumbled acrossed this when I was building mine...

I have 14k on my car now and have been using Launch Control alot. From what I feel and see and hear from other and my own risk. Ive done it over 50 times already and BMW told me 4-6 times a year. bull. You cant do it EVERYDAY BACK TO BACK. That will destory it. But if you do it like from a rough estimate 3-4 times a month or 6-7 a monthes, you should be fine. Just dont do it like 5 times a day and same thing again tomorrow. flex it out, dont dog it.

i'll find out this friday when I go to the track. I'll most likely use it at least a couple times.

Do you have to drive a certain distance before u use it again or can u just wait for the car to cool down?

You need to drive a while before it will let you do it again, roughly 1/2 mile.

LC seemed like a total novelty to me. I did it on accident once and tried a few times afterwards. Isn't the point of LC to limit tire spin to get a great launch? LC on this car does exactly the opposite. It lays down two fat strips of rubber, wasting time and money.

I think the best launches I get are from S drive with DSC activated.

The few times ive used launch control theres been a little bit of tire spin and then it hooks and goes.

The one thing that i noticed however is that on 2 occasions the car shifted well before redline, i think it might take into account uneven road surfaces and when it detects wheelspin it automatically shifts. Since it was on the street hopefully it wont do it on the track

The best launches I've had were when the outside temp was in the 80's or higher and my tires were warmed up. Otherwise I was just laying down rubber like a tool and going nowhere. This car has a lot of torque off the line thanks to overboost.

Is it safe ot say that Launch Control is not as fast 0-60 as DSC off?
