I'm such a germaphobe, I washed my feet in the sink right when I got home downstairs right next to the garage before I stepped in the house. Nothing grosser than being on the mat all day with your bare feet then running around your house with all that stuff on your feet. I want to wear wrestling shoes but it just makes yourself easier to be ankle locked/knee barred (easier to grip with shoes on).

I guess i'm doing tech support but not to the point of fixing someone's computer. I deal more with our company's enterprise system. I'd rather not say which company as i'm afraid Nabil will bug me to death. jk

But as you said, how the heck are we suppose to get experience if nobody even gives us a shot. I think i got lucky and found this place that was willing to train me...and an awesome co-worker that helps me out all the time. :rocks:

Well yea, I'd take a shower of course. But my point was, I cleaned my feet before I went to the bathroom with the shower. I didn't feel like walking throughout my place with those nasty feet. On a sidenote, I wear some pretty cool camo flip flops to the gym. Old Navy $4.99 special!

You know what they say about jokes, they are half truths.

Cool, sometimes you have to take a pay cut to advance. Since you are at an entry level position, it shouldn't be hard to advance. There are two important things you need to know (and probably know, just keep it in mind at all times):

1. Networking - Always introduce yourself, show yourself as an energetic person, never burn bridges. The world is small, the IT community is even smaller. You never know when you'll run into someone at your next company, I've ran into people I've worked with or have been asked if I know such and such person at my former company MANY, MANY times.

2. Knowing when you've gone as far as you can go at your company. A lot of the small companies are good at learning everything, since you do a whole lot of everything. On the downside, these companies often don't have much room for growth. In order to advance at times, the company either has to have someone leave their position, or create a new position. Jumping places in the IT world is the way to go, especially for pay raises IME. I generally do 1-2 years and get out. I would do more if it was the right place though. Biggest problem I see with my friends is that they are complacent, get comfortable, and stay in the same job for years (doing tech support/Help Desk roles I have seen this a lot).

who u wonder if he's reading?

well, bed story time!!!!!
when i graduated all i knew is java and some open-source technologies. I got a job right away, even was offered it before i graduated. Then got sick for 6 months (i feel i told this story like 12 times today) so i lost that job obviously coz i only stayed at it for 4 days.

After that i was willing to work for free, just coz i was really bored and depressed for watching the ceiling. So i picked up an internship at this place in irvine. i worked as QA for 3 months and realized that i joked no more, talked no more, and was always depressed. so i decided to quit the job, and the technology.

I picked up a .NET book and thought this is the way i want to go. I did like 50 interviews but none would take me based on my .NET skills. i got offers for java, but didnt want them.

So finally i found this company, and needless to say they also rejected me. So i decided to pick up a contract for 3 months to work on my .NET skills. Then i re-interviewed and got the job.
it was tough, but im sure it was tougher for some too

Gross. If I come in through my garage and need to go to the front door, I will take off my shoes, and bring them to the front, and put my shoes back on.

yep. Biggest example. my coworker has been a VP of IT at a 4000+ employee company for 7 years, then he thought he is not doing his job effectively anymore, so he had to step down, get a pay cut, go to a lower position so he can go back and do his old job effectively. He's now a senior developer

Good stuff. I really don't understand why some people I know say "I don't want to take a contract position" and then they spend the next few months looking for a job. Contracting = Experience + Networking + $$$
