I would just say if you want the porsche name to drive around, get an 06 cayman base and call it a day.
With all due respect, have you looked at the specs on that car? It has as much balls as our 3's come stock, not quite as torquey but lighter. So even for its lack of technological advancements in the 2001-2007 (my car year) it is no slouch and it is a porsche with less miles. I had Tommy g look at it and it was in excellent shape.

Cuz the 07 3 interior is so modern? If there is one complaint about the e90 335 other than the HPFP is that the interior styling is dated.

I understand that Brian, just saying I'm not looking at your penis coupe as an alternative so the comparison isn't valid.

I'm a Porsche lover but unfortunately stuck with financing if I'm gonna drive something nicer without dipping into long term savings...and not sure how many banks will finance a 23yo on a 10yo Porsche

Also I would probably crash and die

no YOU'RE forgetting that all S54 are secretly supercharged and make 650hp and have more soul and represent what BMW should really be...none of this turbocharging nonsense

LOL, yeah, that's why I'm not driving it now....no sense putting new $ into an older car even with less miles and no hpfp. Otherwise it was a done deal...no mods, just new wheels.

maybe YOURS isn't but for the most part yes they are. I'm not saying its gonna have iDrive and all that but stuff like bluetooth, sat & HD radio... little stuff like that. it's up to you but me personally I'd want at least a 997 or else it would be worth going down to a Cayman S for me.

And its performance is good (not great) though you can get better performance out of a 1er.

Yeah, see, don't really care for any of that stuff. In fact the bluetooth is a pain in that if any ex-gfs call and the wife is in the car I can't answer cuz she'll hear. As it is, their names are listed as guy names anyway. Why are you not answering Bernie's call? Cuz I don't feel like talking to him honey, rather just enjoy this drive with you. So an in ear BT would be better for me.

Sat...I listen to the score.
HD...again, the score
nav...I've got a nuvi I can throw away and get a new one.

Oh, and don't tell me, that while your opinion may differ, that the audi and infiniti interiors are more appealling to the masses then the austere 3 interior (idrive excluded from the conversation) just in terms of display and layout.

then go buy the car

you've justified it for your situation so thats all that matters. I'm just saying I think ultimately if I bought a Porsche I'd want to keep it for 5-10 years already, that means I'd want as much technology in it as there could be cuz I'll just be that much further behind when I eventually upgrade.

So the thought of a 20 yr old porsche in my driveway makes me feel like bill lumberg... a douche.

This is where the ambiguity (gay duo) comes in IMO. Aggregate acceleration, grip, lateral g, braking distances, etc yes a 1er is quite capable. But as we are not completely focused on lap times or elapsed times or 0-100-0 or anything like, performance is much more subjective than saying "this car is faster around this track, therefore it performs better."

As enthusiasts, not racecar drivers, we are most concerned with how a car accomplishes what it can, how much confidence we have in it, how it drives day to day, and this does not exclude "aesthetic performance"...many will perceive (and rightfully so) that because they just "like" a car over another, for them, it "performs" better, even though it may be older, slower, what have you.

*Anecdote Alert* TBH one of the funnest cars I've ever driven was an original Mini. From the objective perspective, it was small, slow, and old, and I'm sure there are plenty who would hate to drive that thing all the time. My friend however loved it, and drove it every chance he could get. Also in his garage was a much faster Audi S4, but if the weather was good he would always be in the Mini.

I understand your argument and am not dismissing it. Its valid. However, I think you are selling that car short on what I consider very minor issues. It is only one design model behind much like the e90 is almost done. For those minor issues, IMO driving a porsche that is that close is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>e90 x 1000. But that's me...

oh I completely agree... my basis though is weight, power, gearing and suspension. I know a 911 SHOULD out corner the 1er but that isn't to say the 1er is a slouch. same weight, more power, great gearing and extra power from a $400 tune.

All I'm saying is the technology Porsche had 10 yrs ago that they put into their cars (not taking about bluetooth, i mean tech put into the car and how its built and such), isn't what a company like BMW is using now, we're a little further ahead than that. an 06 911/cayman s is probably still a touch more advanced than the current BMW's which is why i'd go that route. I personally want to always move forward in this respect, not backward. sometimes it means you can still buy a car a few years older than whats out now but again, what is the point of trading in what you have already if its not really going to put you further ahead in what you're looking for.

And yes I agree... my dad had a cooper S and a nissan Z. he got the cooper as a daily and the Z as a weekend car, 8 months later he traded in the Z cuz the cooper was way more fun to drive.

Just to point out the technology difference is only 6 years in that I am driving an 07 and the comparison is my 07 v that 01.
