nevermind I got it to work after refreshing it 20x and mine IS like that in the cold and mornings, but then goes away.
I just figured it was normal, I have the CPO only warranty so I am not sure if they would fix it or not? But to me it just reminds me of the fuel injs on a honda prelude my friend had b4.

Mine was bad and intermittent. I had my cylinder head replaced a month ago and it's since been corrected, real nice now. BMW gave me no bones about it...they ran a lot number on my engine and said, "Here's a loner. Let us keep it a week." The engine is quiet as a mouse now. Very pleased with the way they handled my case. Anyway, my clicking was much like this, though much more metallic sounding and much louder.

Dealership did the bleed-down procedure on mine a few months back. I brought it back a few weeks ago since the ticking came back, they replaced the hydraulic lifters on the exhaust side, had my car for probably a handful of days.
Hasn't come back. |

Same here -- they did the bleeding procedure and the ticking came back in 5 days. Shorter trips make it happen more frequently apparently. I drove it as is for months with the ticking and finally told them *how to fix it* when I got my first oil change at 12,000 miles. They were cooperative and did the job -- I think your knowledge of the issue is power. You should be fine with your fix as well. They apparently open up a PUMA case for this issue and BMW Germany makes the decision on the approach. They told me some people get head replacements, some people get lifter replacement. Apparently both yield the same "fixed" results, however, one is more labor intensive than the other? Good luck y'all.

Use this thread and gain knowledge of the issue. I don't think the bleeding procedure helps in 99% of the cases, perhaps temporarily. Tell them to replace the cylinder head. They can open up a PUMA case, if needed.

Hello again guys. Well i got a vedio of the dreaded noise im hearing. This started happaning 3 days after my head replacement witch now was like 2 month ago. Ive bin having this sound for now two month on cold starts happanes every single morning. I am pissed beyond imagination. I have called BMW NA 4 times just for them to say that there is nothing that can be done becouse the master tech at my dealer said that its normal. I WANT TO THANK BMW FOR MAKING MY LIFE A LIVING HELL AND NOT CONSIDERING THEIR COUSTOMERS. I WAS TREATED LIKE I WAS 5 AND I DIDENT KNOW WTF I WAS TALKING ABOUT. WELL YOU GUYS FAILED IN MAKING THE 3 SERIES A GOOD CAR TO ME ITS A PEICE OF CRAP THAT NEED A MECHANIC. IDK IF THERE IS MUCH I CAN DO NOW I ONLY HAVE MY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY TILL 100,00. I HAVE 53,00 ON THE CAR BUT STILL THE DEALER AND BMWNA WONT CARE. I STILL HAVE HOPE BUT ITS SLIPPING AWAY REAL FAST AND IDK WTF TO DO ANYMORE. I DONT HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY A NEW CAR OR ANYTHING I BOUGHT THIS CAR WITH MY OWN MONEY AND IM 19. SO THANKS AGAIN BMW AND ALL OF THE FING TECHS OUT THERE. IM COMING AFTER ALL OF YOU. HERE IS THE LINK FOR THE VEDIO.

Hi everyone - newbie here - I just purchased an 07 328xi about a month ago and have been lurking around the forum here for a while. What a great resource this is. Sorry if this has been discussed in the previous 46 pages of posts - but here goes:
It sounds like many of you have had this ticking issue very early and may have gotten progressively worse. My car has about 40k and has not developed this problem (knock on wood). Is there anyone that has seen this problem develop for the first time at 40K? 50K? later? Or can I assume I'm "out of the woods" on this one? If this problem develops after warranty is out, is BMW offering recourse? What would the head replacement cost out of pocket? Thanks for all the help! |

sorry to hear it came back
thats about the only time I hear mine is in the VERY cold mornings OR at my wendys drive thru window but it is never to loud. Just noticable, and I really dont trust my dealer to take apart my engine to fix it. I guess I have another 2 years left on my CPO so if it gets worse I can always go in later.

Early model 328's may be affected, but I don't know (I have the 330). I don't know if current 328's have it. Trust me, if you have it, you'll hear it loud and clear. As for the cost? Well IIRC it's about $3k from what my SA said when I had mine done, but that's dealer shop rates. Indy might be 20-30% cheaper. IMO..at 40k miles if you haven't heard it you're in the clear (maybe work was already done). |

thanks again guys, Yeah I have 51k miles and I called and asked my SA if anywork on this has been done previously and he said NO, so right now to me it is fine, so I guess when it hits 0° F here and I still dont have ticking i will be super happy.
I just am scared of the hacks who work at dealership by my house..
