Have an email in from the site, but sent it Monday with no response so far. . .
This is resolved now. My car moved into production status and I see it with updated colors, though not updated options.

If I had to guess for those who have this problem in the future - it resolves once there is a status update to your car, and what causes it is messing around too much in the oc.bmwusa.com site?

Hope that helps someone. . .

Well... it depends...

With a July 10 PCD, I probably needed to be on one of the boats that left yesterday. I'm holding out hope that I made it and the system is really slow in updating, but I'm not betting on it. If that's the case, I'm possibly out of luck for PCD, since I don't think the upcoming boats leave me enough time to get from Charleston/Brunswick to VPC to Spartanburg by July 10.

Good thing I have a case of Bud Light in the fridge right now. Tasty.

Me too the status changed today for me. Still, the VIN is not on the WW tracking site. I'm in MN, though, so don't know if its an east or west coast delivery. i assume east coast.

Why South Africa?

Piper, do you know why your car was made in south Africa rather than in Germany ( I am assuming your Vin number doesn't start with the German site WBA code)? I would have thought that would have been for left hand drive cars or just selected models or destinations given most of the cars for the USA are coming out of Germany.

You might make it sooner, since you are in NY. It takes about 4 days to get to the port from the factory, and then anywhere from 3-10 days or so to get on a boat for most people. Heading to NY, figure on 12-15 days to get to NY and then you have to go thru the VPC and get to the dealer. So if things break well for you, it might be mid-July or so.

The impression I get is that most 328s that go to dealer lots are from South Africa, but nearly all ordered cars come from Germany - in part because most customers who are placing an order will want cars from Germany. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe they are now starting to produce good numbers of 335s in South Africa, too. When I was looking at cars, in April, I was amazed because it seemed like a huge number of cars on the lots were from SA, way more than I expected. But the SA plant generally gets very good quality reviews, so Piper might have an edge on all of us as it turns out...

That's VERY fast. However, it is possible your dealer had a car that was literally right about to start production, that could be modified into your car.

I won't lie, I was a little bummed to find out my car was being built in S Africa. But after reading into it, it seems they build them very well over there, so it's all good. The worst part about it is the wait---takes longer to get to the states from SA because they run up to germany first then to the states.

As for the Vin, my VIN does start with WBA---thought the letter before the last six digits dictated where your car was built? HMMMMM......

Letter before the last six is an N.....

Received notification today that my pickup time at Die Welt for my 335i e92 on July 8 will be 8:30 am. Can't wait to drive it on the Autobahn.

Sounds like fun

I should do the european pickup one of these days. I really sounds like fun and a neat little driving vacation at the same time. Plus I believe you still save enough to cover most of the costs of going over, etc.

Enjoy your trip

Farewell, friend...

Today was a big day. I officially became car-less.

Today, Kathy of Arlington, Va. came and picked up my 2004 Mazda 6s, to bring it to its new home. She paid me a reasonable price - more than CarMax, less than I wanted - and promised to take good care of it. After almost four years of occasionally wonderful, occasionally infuriating ownership, it felt a little sad to realize that the black-on-black beauty is no longer mine.

I got up early (for me, on a weekend) this morning to take her for one last ride, before signing over the title and turning over the keys. She ran well today, I put on some tunes, opened up the sunroof, and we cruised along the George Washington Parkway - which was nice and empty. It was a fitting farewell, on one of my favorite roads in the DC area.

This is the first time I've not had a car since moving to DC six years ago. It's a little confusing. It's a perfect day for a drive, and I'm oddly struck that I can't just do it. It just gets me that much more psyched for the BMW's arrival, and I know that PCD will be an awesome way to meet the new ride.

Anyway, here's a few photos from today and last summer, to remember her by. She never even had a name... but she'll be remembered.

MikeMidd -

What are you doing without a car? Is your dealerhsip hooking you up with a loaner?

I got a feeling I'm going to be fingered in my gooch by the dealership on my trade. I'm trading in a 2007 G35x. I'm just hoping for KBB prices and I'll be happy. I thought of going the CarMax route, but I'm not real sure what I'd do for a ride for 2-4 weeks. Plus, the closest CarMax is about 2 hours away, so I'm looking at blowing a good day (at least) to turn it around.

My situation is a bit of a PITA. I moved from VA to DC not long ago, but never switched my old car's registration, because I knew I would be selling it and didn't want to pay/hassle with re-titling it in DC. And because I'm doing PCD, I need to have a DC drivers license 2-3 weeks before delivery, so the dealership can register the 335 in DC. So I basically had to sell my current car by a certain date (this week) so I can get a DC license and be all set for the new registration.

Mine isn't a daily driver, I take the Metro (DC subway) or walk to work, so that'll be fine. I'll be begging friends for rides, have already kindly offered to help the DC-area E90Posters rack up miles on their cars, etc. It'll make me crazy not to have a car for evenings/weekends - it already is, and it's been 12 hours. But I'll make it thru, I guess!

The only way to make decent money on a car is to sell it yourself, in my opinion - though you'll have a high-value and nearly new car, so itmight be different. Is there an Infiniti dealer near you that will just buy it? They could then CPO it I'd think, and make great money. I probably could've gotten another 500$ had I not sold mine so quickly, but I got 1200$ more than CarMax offered and it basically took 4 days on Craigslist and answering emails from 4 interested customers. I was looking for easy, as opposed to money, in the end.
