I also would consider replacing the stock tubing with CF, but maybe something darker, but in the same weave pattern - to get a two-tone effect.
Brand prestige?!? Douchebags like you make me sick. And just so we don't have to go back and forth, I bought the BMW because of the options and performance. Slap a Kia badge on it and I'd still be just as happy with it.
Brand prestige. It's a concept by where sometimes a particular company's product earns a reputation, whether by performance, price point or some other attribute, that makes it in some way desirable to some set of customers/potential customers. I do apologize for making you sick; however, sir, I am not a douchebag. Have a pleasant day, fellow forum-poster.

Hey what's the maintenance on the Dinan CAI anyways? How often do you need to replace the filters? And where do you buy replacement filters?

I know Dinan is expensive, but I really like the setup (Mr.5 / Dinan CAI)... just wish it was half price =/

I think once a year. There are two filters, a cone and a flat, that can be purchased directly from Dinan's site.

So you have to replace the cone filter every year as well?? Don't you have to remove the bumper or at least the wheel well to get to that?

I would asume if you replace one also replace the other. Thats what i would do. It looks like you may have to remove the under girtle to get to the cone filter. Not sure, may have to ask someone who has replace theirs by themselves. I have only had mine for a couple of months.

Does anybody have a Dyno report on whether this intake improves things?

I originally got a dinan filter for my stock air box and I thought that breathed a bit easier at 5k+ rpm... but that was my butt dyno... could have been cold that day... what are we talking about 5 hp or 10 hp increase on an intake - maybe??

I think Dinan should post a Dyno of a before and after for this intake. Then I would like to see a dyno of a DCI before and after too. I think there is a reason they don't do that... cause maybe 5 or 10 hp wouldn't be enough to sell too many.

My theory is that you won't see much difference.... certainly for a differential of $1000 plus (my DCI was $100).

The intake looks very nice... but I can't see this with my hood down, and the times I open my hood are ... well, I don't open my hood.... do you? How often?

To each his own, but the $1100 would have put a meth kit and DCI on, for a net gain of 30 to 40 rwhp... THAT you can feel.

or 1100 on a FMIC (not Dinan) and that you would feel big time

or 1100 on a DP - that you would feel big time

the beauty of choice - not for me, but I am really glad you like your purchase - Enjoy it !

they do have stats but it depends on the dinan tune you have http://www.dinancars.com/shop/D760-0...ke.aspx#page=1

You not going to see a difference with your average dyno shop that do not have a REAL dyno fan like this

You not going to see a difference with your average dyno shop that do not have a REAL dyno fan like this

Max HP Gain 14 hp @ 6000 rpm*
Max Torque Gain 16 ft-lbs @ 3400 rpm*
Included Notes Carbon fiber lid, Carbon Fiber air intake tube, rubber hose coupler, Panel air filter for the airbox, Conical air filter for the secondary intake, shielding for the conical filter, Mounting brackets & hardware.

No.... I do NOT think so. 14 HP and 16 TQ.... from an intake?

I want to see the dyno... I just don't see this as possible.

Not that I need to get anyone's approvals for my choices, but if you have a piggy like a PROCede, log the IATs before installing the CAI and log afterwards. Their claims of 40F lower IATs are easily verified and I know someone already did so. . I got this thing and have never had buyer's remorse. I'd do it again.

Red is HP before, Blue is HP after. That car had only Dinan Stage II software, and only added on the Dinan CAI. You'll see ~30 hp gain in small segments. But there is definitely significant gain.

+1 Why hasn't anyone come out with this?

OP. Don't listen to the Dinan haters. I know a lot of Dinan cars and they are all great I just got their stage 1 suspension installed and it is the berries. I LOVE it. I am waiting for a steep discount before I pull the trigger on their intake. I would just need the intake and maybe their oil cooler to get the badge

Thanks for this.... (I am assuming it isn't provided by Dinan... who should have done it). It does show some nice gains up top. I also found it interesting to see it wasn't uniformly higher across the band, lower RPMs the HP dropped (not noticable probably). High end you would feel that for sure.

Also: I am NOT a Dinan hater I spent a small fortune with them and certainly drank the koolaid. Stage 3 suspension, Stage 2 engine....

I couldn't justify this intake (was looking at it when it came out a year ago or so).

I couldn't justify the rebranded and almost double the cost for M3 control arm bushings and subframe bushings when I did my suspension (so I bought them from Harold). I spoke to Dinan on the phone about this. There is NO engineering in these parts that can justify the markup - you have to have more money than brains to buy these from Dinan.

I couldn't justify the "Dinan" LSD - which for sure is a Quaife or Wavetrac - there is no way they made their own or changed the gears (in my opinion) - this is $1000 more than probably the same Quaife from Harold or Mike.

I COULD justify the S2 Flash, and I COULD justify the Stage 3 suspension for the engineering, warranty, safety and performance. I would recommend those like jdemetry and I have been conversing on.

After writing this, and back on topic, there is a lot of engineering in that went into this intake, and it is very nice looking for sure. If the gains are there maybe it is worth it. (Dinan should still put out an "official" dyno report).

Incidently, this dyno seems a bit off the stated performance gains WITH the intake:

(From Dinan's site)
http://www.dinancars.com/shop/D900-3...ed.aspx#page=1

"The results of Dinan’s tuning are nothing short of breathtaking, with the added boost and related recalibration producing maximum output of 378 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 415 lb-ft torque at 4300 rpm. "

(from the intake - from Dinan site) "Horsepower is increased by +14 Hp @ 6000 rpm and Torque is increased by +16ft-lbs @ 3400 rpm with Dinan Stage 3 Software"

Basic math should show the gains that this dyno is showing - unless I am missing something.

HP: 378 + 14 = 392 HP (motor)
TQ: 415 + 16 = 431 TQ (motor)

what is the "normal" drive train loss?

This would put the drive train loss at:

329.9/392 = 84.16% = a 15.84 % drive train loss on HP

and

359.7/431 = 83.46% = 16.54 % drive train loss on TQ

Does this make sense? Am I doing this correctly?

the approx. 16% drivetrain loss is probably pretty accurate but the WHP can be very differant between dynos

The math is correct based on normal conditions with good air flow on a proper Dyno fan

I hate when that happens. I did my dyno runs at two different dyno shops who use mustang and my numbers came out with about 31 whp difference and 55 wtq difference. Everyone claims their dyno is realistic

+1... i've found it almost impossible to trust Dyno's... they are so varied... drives me insane, too... I did a dynojet that said I made 330rwhp and 360ftlb torque with ONLY Stage II flash... but who knows what it would be any other day on any other dyno...

Anyways... I really like the design of the Dinan Intake... I'm just REALLY surprised no aftermarket manufacturer has produced something like it... to me, it's a clearly superior design to the DCI. If Mr.5 can build a replica, why can't a vendor? I know I can't because I have no time =P There may be money to be made here. I'd gladly pay $500 for the intake...

And btw, I called Dinan and told my local rep (NJ) the exact thoughts I had in the paragraph just above... =P

Anyways.. next time Dinan has a sale (>20% off) I'll probably jump on this... HOPEFULLY someone will make a replica before I pay $800 for the unit

I got mine during the last sale. I was going to get it regardless. Its Carbon fiber, so you know its going to cost more than a plastic unit. I don't think they can honestly sell it for $500 and make any profit at all. Regardless I don't have a lot of bad habits except the car and traveling too much, so I am not going to loose sleep or dither getting something I really like and want because of $500.
