LOL! I read his comment and was just waiting for a stage 2 to chime in, nice one.

I bought the car with 38k km on it, now it has ~60k km. Vanos recall, plugs, hpfp (same night as I drove the car out the dealership), coolant reservoir leak, oil line leak, power steering creaks occasionally, and still dealing with a slightly rough idle, thinking its a coil on its way out. Pretty reliable, you pay to play.

it started off looking like the battery was dead or close to it. really slow cranks sometimes it wouldnt start. dealership changed the starter all was well after that for about 2 weeks then it started doing the same thing. slow or no cranks just a click. i went to start my car to head to the dealer i couldnt get it to start. tried jumping it with same result 1 click then wipers started turnng on by themselves, idrive started glitching out and doors wouldnt lock or unlock. it sucked had to get it towed. they said the ''+'' cable that runs from the back up to the front was grounding out on the frame somewhere.

G-d damn, are you driving across the country and back bi-weekly?

That's on average 30,000 miles a year.

And I thought I was driving a lot when I had my n54

I fully plan on getting my 2011 to the 300k mark using factory oil change intervals and do some UOAs on occasion. It's an experiment on BMW's methodology.

Keep in mind BMW changed their oil change intervals from 15,000 to 10,000.

So just some food for thought.

Actually, since I purchased it, I've averaged 35,000/year, almost exactly. Look at my signature.

I'm trying to catch up. I bought my car Jan of 2014 with 41,000 miles and now it has 104,000. Just about 40,000 miles a year at this rate.

Only thing to go bad was the coolant reservoir. There must have been a small leak somewhere; it would need to be filled once a month. I replaced the reservoir myself (part was $99) and it's been good since.

- Automatic (B3 flash)
- Cobb (protined by PTF)
- VRSF FMIC

Original plugs, never walnut blasted. No maintenance other than brakes and oil.

I had walnut blast at 101k. Bobdudeman did it, but it really didn't even NEED it.

N55 Reliability

61,000 miles. Stranded once by the battery. Car refused to jumpstart using jumper cables to underhood terminals. After 2 hours effort was able to get a second car and jump to both underhood and battery terminals. BMW kept the car and I kept their loaner for a week while the dealer service people tested everything trying to prove that the battery issue was my responsibility (aftermarket stereo). BMW FAIL.

My 2011 N55 is in the shop now having the HPFP replaced. It has had long cranks for the last two years, but no half motor warning light.

OP, I owned an 07 e92 N54, 09 e90 N54 and my current 11 N55 e92. I seriously prayed every time I went out on any of my n54 cars that shit wouldn't break or go limp. So many damn N54 problems. 31k miles on n55 and no issues.

You really think so?

300k? I really with I could believe that.

I think with basic preventive maintenance 150-200k is a reasonable estimate. If you want to piss money away on service maybe a little bit more, but I don't think the net net is worth it. Oil changes every 5-7k, ATF drain and fill starting at 50k or so along with Diff fluid every 60k or so, coolant every couple years, plugs every 40k or so with a mild tune. Deal with larger issues as they arise.

But 300k? Maybe if its all highway, but I honestly think that's a stretch. I'll be happy with 150k on original engine and automatic transmission with a suspension replacement and turbo replacement along the way. Mix of highway and NYC stop and go. I don't expect much more than that; I don't baby the car but I always warm up and try to cool it down a bit before shut off without being too OCD about it.

Currently at 59k or so, car hasn't been terrible and still feels pretty solid.
