lol take it as personally as you want it. The basis of my argument is that listening to DMB is pretty inconsistent with differentiating different types of electronic music. It's not all "techno" and anyone with more than a cursory exposure to the genre (one of the largest in the world) can tell you that.

You brought up that since you were so well musically versed, you must know what you're talking about. Insane Clown Posse plays instruments too. My musical taste has never aligned with anyone who likes DMB, yet every time you post about them I don't call you a *** (too many other chances at that). Similar to pointing out that my taste in cars doesn't align with anyone who likes driving a Prius (and yes, I've driven one)

Whenever someone mentions DMB I always think of that one time their tour bus dumped their poop on those people on a boat in the Chicago river.

You realize my attempt to "differentiate" is a mock of it all being obnoxious noise. I listen to all types of music for enjoyment and in study. No I don't much like the club type of electronic music very much and my main point for making fun of you for it is that on the surface level you don't fit that mold either (and yes I know the difference between House, Trance, Techno, Progressive, Industrial ect...).

You're not a clubber (some of us even wonder if you ever leave your house), you're not Bratislavan from what I know, and you are from a more affluent town than most of the members here (money = educated which = more refined tastes). I just don't get it is all.

I know you pin me as some DMB frat boy douche bag and thats it, but its not even close (hell I've never even attended a frat party much less been in a frat). I might have DMB cds, which have gone unlistened to for a while now, but they're nestled up next to a BROAD variety of others, a large portion of which was made before or around the time old man Al was born.

I nowhere said I am musically versed therefor my taste is better... musically trained or not, I think the stuff I listen to is better just cuz thats who I am, end of story. The point I made with the "techno" being lesser music than that of people who play instruments is that music today has lost a vital element it used to contain which was chemistry between man and an instrument and even with the guy next to him. Now its blocks lined up on a chart, its all computer driven and all you need to do is click and drag. Sure its music and it must take some skill to make - I can't deny that but I prefer my musicians to be real musicians with instruments rather than a guy with a computer who works part time for the Geek Squad fixing e-machines.

There are plenty of people of affluence (as well as those without) who would take offense to this. I can talk "refined" tastes all day. I can tell you which cheese I prefer and why, and compare and contrast each of Beethoven's symphonies. You don't need to have money to appreciate something traditionally thought of as "classy."

The fact that this is your take on electronic forms of music simply confirms you're ignorance of it, the musicians, and the experience. I do not know the extent of your instrumental aptitude, but I can assure you mine runs quite deep. My teacher, after learning at a conservatory in Korea got her Masters and PHd at Norhtwestern, and who currently runs the Music Department and Loyola, will attest to this. I was one of a few of her students she deemed "worthy" of having a senior recital. It's on DVD if you need proof.

As a "real" musician, I can appreciate the theory, thought, and process that goes into "clicking and dragging blocks onto a chart." Further, even before I understood this, I never dismissed anything as sub par or one form of music to be better than another based on how, by and for whom it was created. Were this the case, and music so succinctly summarized as people playing "real" instruments, music would have ended with Beethoven. It is likewise absurd to claim that the connection between the instrument (yes, there are electronic instruments), performer, and crowd has been lost. On the occasion I do leave the house, I've come across some of the best, diverse, and most positive group environments I've witnessed at electronic performances (namely Fat Boy Slim and Justice at Coachella, 2008)

The types of "musicians" who approach music the way you just said you do are, in my experience, people without much more ability than a simple drumbeat or reading tablature. There's nothing wrong with that and it's great they want to play, but it's when they vastly overestimate their ability, extrapolate it as if they are some sort of know all end all of music knowledge, is where problems arise. I've yet to have a conversation with a real musician in such a condescending arrogance, and I and I was a number of music-based majors in school, I assure that I've have many conversations with real musicians regarding genre's they liked or disliked.

The difference is a pseudo musician will have in mind what they like, and will attempt to recreate that or something similar. A "real" musician can listen to something they hate, have never heard before, and have a critical yet informed and relevant opinion of it. The fact that you refuse to give electronic music credit where it is due, without knowing the first thing about how it is composed, leads me to believe we won't have much to talk about further regarding either of our musical tastes, refined or otherwise.
