That would be good enough for me

I drove a 535D with SAT transmission again last week. Damn its responsive on the paddle inputs with sport button engaged.
Actually better than a E90 with Alpina flash.. But.. the instant lock-up and the early shiftes in D-mode on the Alpina flash owns the shit out of the E60 SAT

Has anyone had contact yet to these guys?

https://www.powertraincontrolsolutio...on_Controller/

Seems like a solution which is sliced between the trans and the rest of the vehicle? However, I'm not sure how they are able to control the TCU this way?

Yes, I contacted them nearly a year ago. I have their software and felt like it was a good option. The problem came when I tried to purchase a controller. The unit that works on our transmission is only sold to OEMs. If we were a small company that could purchase 10 to 20 of these units a year, there might have been a chance.

@DWR Can you elaborate a little more on this software and the capabilities of the hardware? Is the software free for download?

Yes, and how exactly does it connect to the vehicle?

The free software is available on their website, but it does not include our transmissions for the reasons I stated above.

Description from PCS:
The TCM-2650 is designed for situations where a standalone transmission controller cannot control the transmission directly. Newer transmissions, including the GM 6L80, contain the factory transmission control module inside the valve body. These mechatronic valve body designs make it nearly impossible to directly control the transmission solenoids with a standalone transmission controller. It is also very difficult to remove the transmission and controller from the factory powertrain since all of the transmission parameters are received from other vehicle modules including the engine controller, body control module, etc. The PCS TCM-2650 is an all-in-one solution that will allow the transmission and factory controller to be installed in any vehicle with any engine combination and maintain a fully functional transmission. The TCM-2650 can also be programmed with 2 additional calibrations, each including shift tables and torque converter lockup table.

The TCM-2650 is compatible with the GM 6L45/50, 6L80/90, 6T30/40/45, 6T70/75, Allison 1000 (5 and 6 speeds), the 2nd generation ZF 6HP and the Volkswagen DSG.

That reminds me, did we ever check the hardware/software compatibilty with a F01 Alpina B7? It has way too high rev limit, but the 500 hp and 516 ft-lbs of torque looks more comparable to a modified 335d. I'm sure it is just a shot in the dark.

So are you saying some sort of software configuration is the limiting factor? Like something needs to be unlocked on their end? OR trying to purchase the TCM-2650?

Or do I have it all wrong? Sounds like we need to contact a dealer for them and see what they can do....

TCM-2650 is available to OEMs. I'm not an OEM, so I was not able to pursue it further. If anyone else wants to give a try, please be my guest. Perhaps someone else will have better luck!

I did read their website, but it doesn't say how exactly it hooks up to the car.
I assume you have no further info on that, since they don't talk to non-OEMs?

Well the reason I asked about what the hold-ups are is because I may have found out how to purchase it: http://zerogravityperformance.com/pr...on-controller/
Looks like it can be added to the cart and purchased (maybe). Is this the vendor you contacted? Maybe they can help us.

If the software looks to be compatible perhaps this is a go??

Now i remember...i found this already a few months ago, but ignored it because of that statement:

"The TCM-2600 is not a replacement for internal controllers. You still need to program and tune the internal controllers in most applications."

The question is, what they are really selling: 2600 or 2650? iaknown Could you contact them? I contacted germanautomotivesound!

It is a little confusing, right? The description is for TCM 2650, but the SKU is TCM 2600. Hard to be sure what they are selling. My understanding is the TCM 2600 is available to the public. The Ford 6R80 version of the ZF6HP26 can be controlled by a TCM 2600, but not a BMW. When I went down this path before that was where the confusion was with folks pedaling controllers for the ZF6HP26.

OK, so I contacted them. At first it was a no go and I got shut down. But then I asked this:

"Do you have the capabilities/pull with Powertrain Control Solutions to have the unit at least connect to our transmissions? That would get us where we need to be to tune them on our own."

This was his reply: "I can possibly do that. What volume are you looking on buying? Also it is only proven on 2nd generation HP26 transmissions. becomes non value added when we have to spend many hours on support with companies that do not understand this."

I understand the HP28 is a 2nd gen HP26 correct? So I gave him some more details, including the potential for being able to tune the gas cars and make a LOT of sales. And I asked what is needed from us to proceed to see if this is feasible.

I recommend I put one of you in touch with him if he bites since you guys are much more knowledgeable with the electronics side of this transmission. I can only do so much with my limited knowledge of it....

Thanks for the initiative iaknown! If DWR or RayBan81 don't want to volunteer, you can put them into contact with me. I wouldn't mind if someone else tries first though since I'll be really short in time this summer.

Looking at the block diagram of the TCM2600 it seems like it could function as a gateway between car and transmission with the option of completely bridging CAN1 and CAN2 as a fall-back. That would be exactly what we need to implement your idea RayBan81 and DWR .
Not sure what the rest of the digital I/O, ADC and PWM is used for but it sure looks like a neat piece of hardware. Looks like it can do some data logging as well. Where's the link to the SW though?

Zero Gravity's latest reply: "You probably downloaded the TCM 2000 software. That is not that same as the TCM-2650. The TCM2650 only acts as a CAN message Generator. The Original transmission calibration still controls the shifting and needs modified to change shift points and feel."

Does that answer your question Mik325tds? Not sure what we should ask about next.....

Thanks iaknown. Unfortunately, that answers the questions and puts another abrupt end to this lead.
Anyway, since their hardware seems to be capable of being used as a Gateway, it would be interesting to find out if their SW does support modifying Engine message towards the transmission in order to influence shift behavior. And then how much their HW costs.
