thats right, Show me a log of you telling the DME it is running at 170 load.
Load is a calculation done by dme based of boost pressure, bein gthat you can't lie about that, you can't alter the load.

Try some real boost and see how it responds.

Autotune is in its infacny for JB4, it needs some work. Think about it this way, its trying to run a stock timing map, and limit knock with more boost.

In theory, the only way to reduce the knock, would be to lower boost, by no accident it lowered your boost to a pathetic amount.

I rest my case. This just proves more and more how much stock timing curves need to be reduced for increased boost.

There you go.

A little more boost for you.
Not autotune map.

The average tech doesnt know much besides routine work. Master Techs however are obviously on a differnt level.

hey man,
I'll have to agree with Clap on this one, a lot of the tech's ive met in my years, not just BMW techs, are pretty clueless when it comes to really diagnosing and fixing cars. They can follow prompts ok, but if they have to do it on their own they are worthless.

that being said, there are plenty of good ones out there too

I have found the better mechanics in my area are either employed as Master Tech's, work at race shops, or work at private indy shops and get shit done.

Your confusing a comment like "majority" with one of your buddies like hes included. If hes not in the majority, then hes on the other side of the fence.

Majority isnt every tech in the US. Majority is 90% of the shops employees dont much besides routine maintenance.

Ive been through every job in dealerships. Including a mechanic. I can assure you that not all the employees their are engine builders and tuners and enthusiast.

If 51% dont know squat, then the majority, dont know squat. ITs simple math. Lets get over this. ITs really a moot subject.

Thanks slick. Glad you are coming around, but I have a JB3 (that means no autotune). I will most likely get a Cobb one day, but it sure as hell doesn't have anything to do with this thread. Had the Cobb been available back in 2008 I would have jumped on that bandwagon. Nevertheless, my JB1 and later the JB3 have served me well, and the support from Terry was the best I have seen in an automotive application. Did I mention the price was right as well?

I'll be the first to admit-I'm not looking to post the most powerful dyno, claim the title of world's fastest n54, or cruise the streets looking to embarrass mustangs or whatever.

I'll leave that to you chest thumping knuckle draggers.

I don't have anything to prove, nor do I have an axe to grind.

So yeah, you are correct-I'll indeed be okay.

i gave several instances where the statement is not true -- not just in one case, but a few. not just tech but advisors.

yes there are guys that are hired that are sub-standard, but isnt that the case in every industry. i guess it piss me off, cuz where i live and work we see quite a few modded cars, a whole lot matter of fact. our techs dont surround a car and say -- oh man what the hell is that.. if things turn bad for someone we are not cheering for their demise. ive worked all my life in this industry -- and to be lumped together with a incorrect statement of fact is stupid as me saying that you are a substandard tuner.

i dont know your work, but i presume youre a decent guy -- why would i gather anything different, or make statements that were unfounded ?

bad business doesnt follow good ....

thats like me walking into this forum and saying you all are F***'n clueless.

thats not going to buy me any goodwill or rank me as an authority -- just some biased a**hole

Exactly my point! I said haven't died YET. Let me spell it out for you.
(1) Smoking leads to premature deaths. However, people can smoke for years before the effects accumulate and lead to poor health (generally speaking).
(2) Knock, detonation, et al, causes engine damage and premature engine failure. However, people can run a tune with no timing control for years before the effects accumulate and lead to poor performance.

I think you have blown this a little out of proportion and took a little bit too far to heart. Wasnt meant to be offensive, it is just the truth of an industry, there are some good people and some not as good. We all arent perfect.

What is fact is that not ALL techs are super savy car enthusiast/engine builders/tuners. Period.

If you read several of my posts, they all infer that MY specifics posts were never about tunes ( I even said it verbatim its not about which tune in other areas of this thread), and that its simply about tuning in general.

What people still want to buy is their opinion, and their entitled to buy what they want with their hard earned dollar.

FWIW, Mike is not the only person that sells BMS products. Not by a long shot.

BMS has dozens of vendors on E90 that offer their products.

We all list them at the same price out of respect to one another. Mike is very popular because hes present a lot in the community.

By no accident they can get it from anyone that sells it for the same price.

very true -- not all car enthusiast are tuners. True?

not all forum members are mechanically inclined so where do we draw the line to be civil?
