“You can’t outrun me you pale, piece of shit!” shouted an angry voice, approaching from behind quickly. Muffled screams were heard even further back from others trying to catch up.

Running as fast as he could down the dim-lit street, Alan Carrington feared that his old high school enemy, John, would eventually catch up to him. Sweat flooded down his face. It was a hot, humid night.

Alan was an Australian-born, albino man in his early twenties. Most of his life was spent being ridiculed from a family embarrassed by his light, hairless skin as well as being on the blunt end of torture from peers at his schools. For a few years since he graduated, spending his days avoiding people as often as he could. Never did he once expect to run into old classmates on a random night he sought out to go shopping for food.

His classmates, once spotting him, immediately shouted obscene names and perused toward him. He had thought after high school people would of grown up and/or forgotten him. He thought terribly wrong.

In High School he was the quiet, anti-social type, which garnered unnecessary attention from his peers. Unfortunately it was hard for an albino-skinned boy to gain acceptance. He had no friends, nor anyone that went out of their way to build a friendship with, except for a well-liked girl named Jill.

She was a highly attractive blond; admired by the girls, wanted by many guys. She was at the top of her class, using her brilliance and charm to manipulate anyone she wanted. Her and Allen shared a few classes together during his final years in school. He admired her, craved her, lusted for her deep down inside, yet knew she would never feel the same. However, it was the fact that she out of anyone communicated with him that made him desire her more than anything.

He figured she had a guilt conscious and felt bad for him, hence why she was the only one to make conversation with him. They laughed over random things, even cheated off each other during exams. When others questioned her about their friendship, she defended him outspokenly. It brought him much joy each and every time she did so.

Close to the end of the school year, they were talking to each other about their upcoming Senior Prom. Several closed by looked at them with disgust.

“Do you plan on going?” she inquired with a distinctive smile.

“Not likely,” Allen nervously responded. “I feel there’s no point in going and besides, I have no to go with.”

“I want you to come with me, Allen”, she said, leaning forward and placing a hand on his shoulder. A few mouths dropped from those who overheard.

At that moment something inside Allen’s stomach flipped upside-down. Never did he expect such a question to come from Jill. He was in total shock.

“Allen?”

He shook his head quickly. “Are you…are you serious? Me?” He could not hold back his blushing. “You’re asking me with you?”

She smiled and nodded her head.

“I would love to”, he said, still in astonishment.

“Great! You’re in store for a great night! Don’t listen to what anyone has to say to you. They’re all assholes. That’s why I want you to come with me. You’re different. You’re not them. You wouldn’t ever hurt me.”

“Never”, he responded.

“At 7 o’clock Friday night, a bunch of us will come pick you up in the Limo to head there. My dad is paying for everyone’s tickets so you don’t need to worry about that.”

“That’s awesome! I’ll see you then.”

When that very day arrived, Allen was at his happiest. He did not care what anyone thought of him. For once, he felt wanted and welcomed. This was his miracle…

Allen excitingly opened the front door of his house after hearing the honking of Limo. Walking toward it, his red eyes could not leave the sight of Jill’s face, which was sticking out of the window, smiling at him.
