facts of life

I give this rant a 2 out of 5.

I don't feel as bad for the guys playing in the modern game. They make a lot of money and live very comfortable lives. The ones in the past were not as lucky.

This is a personal responsibility issue. If someone wants to take a beating for 15 years and make 100's of millions of dollars all while knowing they are going to be a vegetable by age 50, so be it. It was their decision to make.

It is not the owner's job to say to the players, "Your brains will be mush if you play our sport."

exactly. But is the solution abolishing all sports? Is it better equipment? Less equipment? Different rules?

That's not the "revelation" anyone is having here Carlos. No one is saying that they didn't know football was dangerous. They're getting to a point where they can finally start to quantify how dangerous they are with physical evidence from people who played and didn't suffer any devastating injuries. The "news" here is that even in simple high school football, it is so much more dangerous than people thought with real, physical effects long after play has stopped. Not you're joints are achy or you have a bad knee or something, that your brain is literally being turned into mush and people who should otherwise be healthy are becoming depressed, turning to substance abuse, and in extreme cases suicide. The common denominator for a lot of these people were they were ex football players and likely suffered from CTE

FYI, Delta Sonic uses the soft cloth wash. Which, in theory, the water stream constantly cleans the cloth of debris. Me, I'm not buying it. I'd rather go to a legit detail guy like Steve or for those of you the prefer, Jason that I know will be using clean materials.

As far as the CTE goes, the problem is that children are not of age and are not intelligent enough to make these decisions. Therefore, it is left up to the parent. That is the difficult, how do you as a parent, knowingly put your child in harm's way? Its one thing for you to decide to drive fast or speed or play sports yourself, but unless you are in a no win situation anyway (ie welfare/gangs/ghetto) there are few parents that will let their children suffer.

So, what is the future of sport? Is it a culture of sport played only by the less priveleged...moreso than it is today, because they are "expendable"? Or do the sports become safer from the ground up? However, how do you make football and boxing in particular safer? Even if you eliminate the helmets and the pads, I can recall playing 11 on 11 full contact tourneys and delivering some bone jarring hits. I never got hurt but I hit people hard enough to break collar their bones, give them concussions, separate shoulders and even to the point where I was out on my feet and didn't know really anything for a few plays other than find the guy with the ball and kill him.

That's what I thought! The description says they use a touchless wash though. I haven't been there in a year or two though.

Well maybe they've changed, but I don't even like the touchless washes. Chemicals have got to be very harsh.

Well, in theory. I have no imperical evidence to that effect, but I'm not risking it.

I am hedging because I got into a discussion with someone on the detail boards about this and got out over my skis without real evidence.
