Any wiring/hoses that is in the immediate vicinity I would relocate as far away as you possibly can, along with wrapping with some aluminium shielding. The valve cover top needs a thick aluminium blanket in between it and the valve cover to protect the injectors, coils and wires. Here's a pic of the heat protection my shop implemented to protect the area around the ST (shameless plug to German Motorworks).
What about the power wires and ground?

I'd have to go look at my car, pretty sure all wires except the positive terminal got relocated. If you're going to run BoostBox you'll want to make sure it's WAY out of the way. My case warped a bit the first time I ran it.

You were right! My Valve cover cover started melting. Te wires around it were fine. I moved the windshield washer fill tube in time. I'm making a custom heat shield for that area Do you also have heat resistant tape on your hood?

No I haven't had a problem with that but the hood needs vented. I just blew up my motor last night so it'll be out of action for a bit.

I had a super knock code pop up on cyl6 either before or after my race a few weeks ago I'm not sure. Last night I went to pass someone and heard fire shoot out 'normal' followed by a loud bang 'not normal'. Long crank and ran bad after that. Just took out my plugs and cyl6 is oil soaked so it looks like I lost a ring land or a piston. The warning sign that something was wrong is oil consumption went up. Prior to the event I burned almost no oil.

Ouch. I hope she gets well soon. It will happen to most of us at some point. I have an extra n54 on a stand right now that I plan to build.

Anything we can do to prevent it down the road?
How much were you pushing?

Did a few things on the car today. Current setup.

Get index 12 injectors asap. Pretty sure a weak injector is the culprit. It's getting diagnosed now.

Make sure you do what I did and run a soft, non-E85 tune to start out with. I ran a regular tune ~5 months to ensure everything was up to snuff. I was hoping that would be enough to feel out things like weak injectors but ya never know!

Running map 1 now and just sent Terry my logs. Boost is still out of control. Fixed one boost leak so far. It hesitates and then goes out of control.

Just got to a computer to look at your heat shielding, that looks quite thorough. Do you have the aluminium blanket sandwiched between the plastic cover and the valve cover to protect your coils? If you haven't already I would definitely vent your hood. My IATs creep to 130+ sitting for more than a few minutes in traffic or in a drive-thru. Venting your hood will help tremendously with that. One more word of caution; if you ever get a super knock code make sure you heed that seriously. It is 99.9% not a phantom knock and is something that needs attention in your setup. I only got that error once ever; unfortunately nothing yielded its head when I went looking for the root cause (which is likely the non-index 12 injectors).

Are you running BoostBox or a external boost controller? Once your tuner gets the WGDC set for your setup BoostBox is very nice. If you're running the GFB boost controller I'd recommend a overboost of no more than 16.5psi during initial testing, pretty sure my duty cycle was set at 18 at first. Even with light springs and the two wastegates it would still try to spike, the 6266 puts out some serious power.

Yes, I cut the valve cove cover. The shield covers coils. I'll be adding more exhaust shielding to cover coils. Currently running jb4 g5. Backend Flash ST map for twin scroll. SsAIC6. Logs not showing boost but it's definitely boosting. So it must be a leak which causes the bogging/hesitation. Can Mac solenoid be faulty? Checked all lines and they look good. I'll definitely be going SS on those. I'll get index 12 ordered tonight. Not throwing any codes.

Im on 12 psi springs with the Tial WG. Duty cycle set at 50 per ST initial setup instructions from Terry.

I haven't personally seen or heard of faulty MAC solenoids but it's under tremendous heat so anything can happen. You may want to reach out to Burger and see what he thinks regarding your overboost situation. Their support is top notch; no doubt he would give some advice or lend a hand if he can.

Terry is top notch with service. I'll see what he say. I'll re check wiring to solenoid once I get a chance. I need to cut out secondary cats asap from the IS exhaust while I wait for a custome 3.5". And need a good tuner. What do you run as far as tune?

Not sure the cats are going to cause you a lot of problems; mine was running stock exhaust and cats with no issues. The flaming will definitely disintegrate them in short order, it is on my list of things to cut out once the engine is installed. You will chew through O2 sensors with the ST though.

I'm running MHD with a custom tune from Wedge w/ BoostBox controlling the MAC solenoid. I can't say enough good things about him, he's talked on the phone for hours with me on track weekends to tweak tunes. The tune is solid as a rock; perfect fuel trims and AFRs. The thing logs exceptionally clean, well it was until my injector presumably went out He did both my economy 93 tune and my E85 tune with the standalone AIC. It was scheduled to go in for a dyno run Tuesday, however the estimate on 93 was ~530ishWHP and E85 was at least ~700WHP, likely more. I spec'd the build to flex to 800WHP so there's a lot of wiggle room there, again if you take out a bad injector. The thing builds up boost really quick and is a treat to fling around the track.

BoostBox wasn't a thing when I went ST; I was originally controlling MAC solenoid with a GFB EBC. The logs were a sight to see, the throttle would close just the right amount to make the turbo PSI a perfectly straight flat line. He does amazing work. Here's a snippet of a log with the EBC I was running, the thing stayed at precisely 17.1psi the entire run through the EBC and throttle plate modulation. I'd imagine if you went this route your boost control issues could be ironed out.

BoostBox might be the ticket. I'll give Terry some time, but if I can't iron it out I'll have to give Wedge a call.

That log looks nice and steady. Looks promising.

5 months?!? I am all about due diligence but man that is a loooooong.
What exactly were you checking that required that much time?

I have over $20k wrapped up in this portion of the build and wanted to do due diligence prior to taking everything up to the limit. I'm a patient man and didn't want to blow the engine up The whole intent with the build was to have a car that I'd never have someone try to race me on the highway etc. Wolf in sheep's clothing is what the mechanic called it. We all spent a lot of time making everything hidden so it looked completely stock so some design considerations like lack of hood vents made me vet it thoroughly to make sure heat wasn't an issue when it was being tracked and things.

With all that being said and especially with my engine grenaded there's a lot of lessons learned to share. Not doing a vented hood was a mistake. I'll probably end up posting a lessons learned thread for ST folks so they LFMF
