Just curious. how many wires/pins will be intercepted by the JB3. Just thinking how complicated the professional/non PnP version will be to install.

11 pins. The pin-out version wont be any harder than other pin-out tunes out there right now (Helix, AA, etc)

Hey guys, time for an update!
There are a handful of JB3s in the field now testing our daily driver map. Boost is set to around 12psi down low, 13.75-14psi @ 5500rpm, tapering to around 10psi before the shift. Under more ideal cooler temperatures or better intake/exhaust/IC boost is preserved. The factory tune, JBX, and a variety of other tunes would drop boost under these conditions. Under hotter temps or less efficent combos with the stock intake/exhaust/IC boost drops a bit instead of skyrocketing like the stock tune or JBX would. Overall the tuning is setup to dynamically match the modifications and current conditions. Probably not going to make for the best dyno results but on the road it works very well. Maybe we'll make a dyno glory map for those that are interested... :lol Anyway I have asked them not to post anything so if you see any JB3 beta test posts you have the green light to take the poster out... The biggest hold ups in production is sourcing pins for the PNP harnesses, and the immense amount of labor required to build each harness. To help speed up the latter BMS has purchased a nifty new machine. Should be here in a week or two! Check it out in action. This should shave an hour off the three hour process. Also attached is a photo of our JB3 test rig. The breadboard is setup to simulate the relevant parameters (boost, rpm, fuel pressure, etc), and then the meters are setup to ensure everything is working as it should. You can also see the harness tester. |

And thats how savings can be passed on to the customer. Just about any DVOM will have sufficient accuracy for this kind of work. If you want to pay a company to own the most expensive equipment, (and high overhead) then you will probably pay for it in the purchase price of the end product.

Those boost numbers are running on 91 octane, its still just the preliminary mapping... changes may come after beta testing

*** 7/8 EDIT Beta testing on the "high boost" map in progress! This map is suitable for all premium brand 91 octane grade and higher fuels. Peak boost is set to 14psi @ 5500rpm when the conditions are right (e.g. 60 degrees ambient), or as low as 11.5psi @ 5500rpm under extremely poor conditions (e.g. 120 degrees ambient). Low end boost is set to around 12psi, and high end boost tapers to around 10psi before redline. Plan to do some before and after dyno testing on our 100% stock v81 135i auto next week. If time permits may also do a couple pulls with our intake.
Also had a chance to crunch the numbers and finalize pricing. Price will be $779 for the plug and play version, and $579 for the professional (pin out) version. We are working hard to build up stock on plug and play harnesses but there will likely be a large shortage upon release. Those that opt for the pin out harness initially can easily add the plug and play connectors when they are available. |

"Lean-cruise mode, for those of you looking for maximum fuel economy on your private roads. Ideally selectable via the map switch. BMS is also toying around with the idea of nerfing boost on this map to 2-3 psi, so your 335 feels like a 328. Perfect for when your "buddy" needs to borrow it."
circa, what psi would the engine be running at on lean-cruise mode? and if you guys could actually almost turn off the boost, then this would be the BEST tune in the world! please tell me these two options will be available on the JB3!!! |

doesnt seem like its going to be much faster then a JB2X, but just many more features to be adjusted i suppose.
am i correct?

The street map is set to around 14psi with a dynamic taper so power should be strong, similar to a JB2R under ideal conditions on pump gas. With smoother performance and a much easier plug and play install. They have a variety of other neat maps in the works, and since the unit is easily updated BMS will continue to offer new maps as R&D goes on. |
