With the way the JB3 controls boosting (which I do not claim to have a thorough understanding of at this point, other than that it uses both stock solenoids), does it have the true ability to negate/counter/erase the lag from the wastegate duty cycles imposed by 29.2+ progmans?

I 110% understand how Dinan fixes this issues, because they build their code on the 27.4 foundation, which didn't HAVE the stupid lag. However, using a piggy, I wouldn't think you would be able to control or change the code within 29.2 that is at the root of the lag. Perhaps JB3 does something ELSE to more or less counter the lag. I'd love some explanation/clarification around that.

With the cars you are dyno'ing, and your general experience, I assume you have personally felt the change in responsiveness on 29.2+ cars, and I'd love to hear your impressions of how JB3 impacts that aspect, if it actually does at all.

Thanks!

The jb3 aggressively increases the solenoid duty cycle as a function of boost and throttle input to reduce/eliminate the lag associated with v81/29.2.

You'll be fine, no need to clear any codes if there is no lights on your dash. Even if there is somethings stored, the code you would have left wouldn't be something that has to do with the boost control system, and wouldn't be suspect of tuning. Our official stance on the JB2 race switch is to only use it when needed, leaving it on all the time is not suggested.
<end jb2 discussion>

OK, back to jb3 discussion now...

Ah, Rix, you're quick! I was editing my post above to add another question and consolodate, but you beat me to it.

Here's the other:
I'm hoping you can clarify something about map switching. From the documentation, it's clear that there will possibly be 5+ maps off the bat (stock, 91, 93, 100+, and lean cruise), however, as I believe BMS alluded to, the most common setup will be a two position toggle switch. So, how will the two maps be designated as those two that are to be switched between in a case like that?

Woot. As an auxilliary effect, I suppose the sound of the car may be changed, probably more back to pre 29.2 sounding exhaust (rather than the loud pops and burbles that the open wastegates result in, from 29.2).

actually, last I heard it was a 3 posistion switch, possibly more... but definatly more than 2!... and the 91/93 would not be selectable via mapswitch, but rather either automatic/not needed or pre-selected.

From Terry@BMS:
The harness has a small connector to accept various map switch
options. For release we plan to have one switch ready. It is a 3
position toggle switch that allows the user to enable the valet/lean
cruise and low boost map. No map switch at all defaults to the high
boost map. We've decided to make the map switches ala-cart since there
will be so many variations and expect the price for the 3 position
toggle to be around $20 with 18" of wire (to leave it in the engine
bay), or around $30 with 48" of wire (to run it inside the cabin).

We have plans for a lot of other neat maps and switch options, some
with as many as four maps that include data logging features, and will
offer those as upgrades down the line.

I am really excited about this!

Just curious--Will you be offering any kind of dual packaging--like the JB3 + BMW filter together?

Is there a possibility of a wireless remote that would offer 4 maps and include the data logging feature? That would be a lot more convenient when i have to uninstall it when i go to the dealer. Do you guys recommend running the lean cruise/low boost the majority of the time? or should that just be used for short periods of time?

not at first, but one of the main reasons I am here on e90post is to offer group buys and combo deals on BMS products... which I plan to do sometime after the initial launch of the jb3 when things calm down... of course I am limited to what Terry will let me do

Ahhh, I see. Well I don't think I will be able to wait for one of the group buys. Even if I saved 10% or whatever it might be, it wouldn't be worth it to lose those days without the JB3 as summer starts to wind down here soon....

The official release date is in August right? Are you guys any closer to pinpointing the actual date ?

2 questions regarding v81dme and JB3...

1. would running the JB3 on 94 octane (i live in canada, we have 94 everywhere) trigger the piggyback detection on my v81dme

2. would running the jb3 + 94 octane + aftermarket exhaust (section 2 midpipes & 3 ) trigger the piggyback detection on my v81dme/29.2 ???

Higher octane will not trigger a detection. We also have built in enough of a safety net that exhaust and intake will be safe, but downpipes are not supported on v81 yet.

Forgive me if this question was answered elsewhere...

What happens if one buys this product and BMW makes a subsequent revision to the ECU (which is inevitably updated during service intervals), rendering the product incompatible? Is the consumer simply out of luck?

I would assume chips could be updated in the future to address such changes. I believe the chips will be fairly inexpensive as well.

This is a good question.

I am planning, upon getting my JB3, to instruct the dealer to not update my software from then on out--hopefully there won't be a problem.....
