My butt dyno is not at issue here. I have not had the two different revisions installed so I am not one who could say one way or the other. The next time I take it in for a update I wll have it dynoed right before and immedialtely after right there at the dealership so i can see what types of gains I actually got with Dinan. Unfortuantley I did not dyno before the Stage 2.
I have been pretty happy with stage 2, I enjoy the added acceleration and power that it gives(especially after BMW took some away).
What i am not real thrilled about is the trend that seems to go with this car of not disclosing changes made to it or the software after it has been bought. I do not like people changing something that is mine without asking me or at least being honest about it when asked. Cover up and denial are not the things I look fror when doing business with a company. I am not saying that this is the case with Dinan since I am getting this info second hand. I just like to know what I get when I pay for something and like to be able to keep what I got.
Sorry if that is a little off topic, too many bowls of Lucky Charms and i get a little crazy.

I too hated the Original stage 1 on/off throttle, and hated the the maddening steptronic remap that resulted in constant gear hunting in the speed limit range of 55-65mph, but it seemed to only happen hilly areas where the road elevation changes a lot. I love the progressive stage 2 throttle response, but feel I am down on power. That stage 1 rush was good, too bad they had to dial it down. That said, my car has been a dealer frequent flyer. I only have 15K on it, its been in at least 12 times. I am very disappointed at the poor quality of these cars. BMW I pray you get screwed in this economy and wise up, or else I will very probably be among those bidding you goodbye.

I am ambivalent about Dinan. Not mad, just under-whelmed badly. I don't think I would buy another flash or performance part from them again. I'd rather try the competition next time, I am sorry to admit.

WOW! are you sure they will do this? So you are saying the original flash can be reflashed back to our ORIGINAL stage2 rev1?
I'm in.

Confirmed.
Cane pick up the phone and call them. You'll have Rev. 1 by the weekend.

Thanks for the info guys! This is good stuff.
I've never mesed with my ecu(DME), is it a pain in the butt to take out/in?

Bubbles- did you speak with dinan directly? Can you shed some light on the conversation? Are they acknowledging rev2 being LESS boost/HP???
I will try to call them tomorrow.
Thanks again

I spoke directly to Chris in Sales...he is sales for California..or at least Norcal. He said they didnt detune anything. BMW puts in something that they cant override..that pulls back stuff as the car gets hotter and hotter. Trick is to drive only in cold weather He also said cars with their oil cooler kit seemed to work much better....of course he would say that. I tried to get a sponsorship..but it was no go. I will keep on him on this topic.

Main thing is CALL DINAN yourself..they will tell you exactly what is up.

That is good news. Kind of restores my faith in Dinan. Only problem for me will be removing the ECU since I have no idea how.. If any of you have any experience with that, please let me know if it is relatively simple or not. Thanks

I just came back from a presentation by Steve Dinan and I spoke with one on one for 15 minutes. The original post is nonsense and BMW doesn’t tell Dinan what to do in anyway. He explained Dinan relationship with BMW and there is no agreement of any sort but they do work together at warranty claims as it benefits them both. He mentioned the relationship between Dinan varies at time and depends on who is BMW NA president at the time. There is a new president at BMW NA as of two months ago. Steve is very much aware of these rumours like the one in this post and seemed to find them comical.

I did find out stage III peaks at 14.5 PSI and stronger throughout the whole range than stage II. The strut bar and air intake will be released next year.

Next time you talk to him, ask him to please get some more locatrions. As of now the nearest Dinan dealer is a 6 hour drive each way to Dallas so if I need service, as in my fuel pump is going right now, I have to drive to Dallas(with a faulty fuel pump), at least thats what the warranty stated. It has to be taken to a Dinan shop. Anyone know if it can be taken to a regular BMW dealership?

I think the sales rep is stating my story as I had controlled pull back at it was only truly visible at the track. I wrote them a very detail scenario on the cars behaviour. The new pump and plugs fixed it. My 20 minutes mountain run seemed to show the car was fixed at the oil temp was 270 F but it hard to know for sure until I do another hot track day. The pull back can be bad enough that you can get someone running up your backside.

BTW, i had all your problem as well.

Orb,

Respectfully, do you see a scenario where he would say that they detuned? I doubt it...

There are multiple dynos in this thread alone, including mine, which support my experience with both versions of the tune.

+1
And why would dinan be willing to reflash us back to rev1 if there was virtually no difference in power?
I'm a 6mt and didn't have the throttle response issue that dinan said required REV2 to resolve. So what would be the purpose of me sending my ecu to them if there is no power difference b/w rev1 and rev2?

Cane, I'm with you on the throttle behavior, in fact I plan on getting Rev. 1 back just for the linear response.

But with all due respect, I’m confused with your behavior. You wanted Rev. 1 back and it is now available to you. Just get and if it sucks you can continue on your crusade. I have a feeling you'll be happy.

If I were you, I’d jump on it before it dries up as an option.

Why do I continue to reply.

Hmmm, the possibility of going back to the initial version now presents itself. Very interesting, very tempting.

Biz, if you so much as dare to this, I will reach through my monitor and beat you like a red-headed stepchild.

Besides with your slushbox you are better off with Rev. 2.

Good point.

Although, while Rev. 2 is probably the better overall setup for the Step., I do miss being blind-sided by that tidal wave of torque.

Wouldn't it be a better overall scientific evaluation of the differences between the two versions to test out Rev. 1 again after a lengthy stint with Rev. 2?

Part of me doesn't want to hassle with the ECU removal and such at this point, with the C63 arriving in March.
