Looks like the flywheel may be the culprit for me. The 128 flywheel 11227548102 has a flex plate that protrudes quite a bit in comparison to the 2011 528 (N52/8HP45) flywheel.

Do you happen to remember what the DSC code was? As I can find online regarding this problem, seems like it would be hard to solve since the DSC units are older in e90s. In the xDrive models, when the 8hp transmission goes into 8th gear, the DSC throws an error and goes into emergency mode (8 can't be represented with 3bits???). How did you plan to proceed to solve this? Did you only use the Yanhua for programming and NcsExpert for coding? This thread is as close as it gets to a full OEM 8hp in e90 solution, so I think it's worth asking ![]() Cheers |

I’ve been looking for some more infos but I can’t find any. The n20 converter mounting is different with the flex plate not being flat, and that may cause an issue apparently with the n52 flywheel. I’d like to give it a shot however as that’s a daily driven I can’t screw it up, hence the reason I look up EVERYTHING to make sure I have no bad surprises under the car. For now, I’ve seen that the transmission mounts are compatible, the ATC 300 looks compatible with the 8hp45x awd version (not 100% sure though) and the CANTCU offers a full compatibility. The only thing I have to figure out is which TC should I get and how to make it work. |

Got my 8HP swap to work in my E90 330i.
Bought a 8HP from an E84 sDrive20i. Flashed it to E89 sDrive28i mapping and reset the ISN. Replaced my MSV70 to MSV80 and replaced the usual modules with FRM3 Max Brose, CAS3+, JBE3. Gearbox needed an extra hole and I used an N55 torque converter. Bolted it up right on my stock flex plate and repinned the 6HP harness to 8HP. All works, got some errors that I need to fix (coding CAS and wrong airbag module because of a missing signal), mostly easy stuff. |

What’s the gearbox warning light from? Did you have any error codes for DSC or anything else? The last step to get this 100% correct would be to port over a tune more suitable for N52, but looks like it drives pretty well already? |

Gearbox warning is from the CAS, it still expects to old shifter, didn't code it properly yet. Should be fixed with coding, maybe it will need 8HP firmware, because if I lookup CAS in ETK, I get a different P/N for the E84 when selecting automatic transmission. Also my key won't eject immediately after parking car, not a problem because I have comfort access, but needs fixing, also problem is in the CAS. DSC works, also in the 8th gear. It's the original DSC from 2005. Also Adaptive Cruise Control still works as it should. Will update here. My time is a bit limited |

I have a readout from N52 F10 transmission which might be useful for tuning. Don’t remember if I already posted it here but let me know if you’d like a copy. |

![]() Park gear is indeed the problem I think. I will check and post the errors in the end of the week. I need to find an E84 or E89 with 8hp VO that I can use to code my CAS so I can compare the files.. |

![]() I installed the MSV80 and CAS3+ to install the gearbox, because EGS needs EWS3. Immobilizer works as it should, no EWS delete or anything Checkengine is about the removal of the cats, I removed the secondary O2’s because I don’t have a tune yet. Only error in the gearbox is about a missing message from the ACSM about driver detection. My car doesn’t have a proper ACSM. I don’t know if I will be swapping that to a newer version, that error won’t pop up in the kombi/iDrive so I don’t care for now. The gearbox error in the cluster is coming from the CAS because I didn’t code it yet, it’s looking for the old gearselector. |

I've never seen an 8HP swap done with stock parts before. This is pretty cool

Attached is "full" readout from F10 528i with N52B30 - was made with a Yanhua ACDP a couple of years ago. Program section is incomplete but it should contain full maps.

Update:
1: Z4 sdrive28i mapping is great in all modes: D, S and M. Dailyed the car for 3 days now, it’s a massive upgrade on the original 6hp (even with xhp). Didn’t have the need to tune yet. Downshifts are very satisfying and sound awesome with catless headers and MPE. Damos for E-series 8hp are impossible to find as of now. 2: Adaptive cruise control doesn’t work in 8th gear. Max 7. So will be lookibg for a workaround. Other possible solution is E70 acc with stop and go, those will understand 8 gears. 3: only EGS error that i get is about a missing signal from the airbag module about missing a missing message on the pt-can about the seatbelt. Strange enough, gearbox stays in D with seatbelt insterted and door open. 4: Still need to finish the wiring and code my CAS properly. There is still a possibility that the CAS needs replacement to get rid of all DTC’s. BMW ETK says that cas is a different p/n with 8hp. Paddles and pa_bus are still not connected to my new DME and gearbox. Probably explains my EWS4 dtc in DME. According to newtis, cars with EWS4 have that wire connected between CAS, DME, EWS, steering lock and comfort access module. Will be researching later. Busy with new interior right now, will be removing my extended leather dashboard for a standard one with other seats Last edited by alexnaoumov; 03-15-2025 at 03:35 AM.. |

I'm keen to hear how the CAS goes after wiring.
Presumably the seatbelt message is forwarded from KCAN to PTCAN via the JBBF? Does E84/E89 use the same JBBF3? ACC issue is interesting. This is handled by the LDM, I assume it's programmed to handle 7 gears for the E92/93 with DCT. Might be relatively simple to bench read and disassemble the firmware (at least, much easier than doing this for EGS); it could be a simple change to add support for 8th gear. I also have ACC so would be interested in trying this out. What's the behaviour when trying to use ACC in 8th gear? Does it just not engage? Does it disengage if you shift from 7th to 8th while it's active? |
