if you are replacing with same spec you can use tool32 to register a new battery.

hi all

BMWhat supports battery registration and switching the battery type by a new in-App. tried it out yesterday, worked like a charm... and by the way, I saved a lot of time and money instead of going to my mechanic

Weird Issue

So after reading the forums and comparing notes, I figured I'd replace my dying OEM BMW battery with a similar one from Costco.

I was told by a service adviser that if replaced with a like for like battery, I wouldn't have to register it. Replaced the battery and it runs fine, except for the occasional discharge as I drive less than 10 kms daily.

A month later now, I've finally began learning how to code and figured I'd look into registering the battery. The CAS module stated the car was coded to charge a 90AH AGM battery when the battery was lead acid (picture below).

Should I recode the car to let it know that I've installed a lead-acid battery now? I'm using Kirkland Signature Auto Battery with fitment code H7.

Any suggestions?

Most certainly recode it. You should probably register it as well. But I think it was a mistake putting a Lead Acid battery in this car -- not a big mistake because that is the way my 2009 came. But BMW has upgraded to AGM batteries, unless you got a great deal on a lead acid battery that you couldnt get on a AGM one, I dont see the point of keeping the old style battery. Though I dont know which one lasts longer....

Mine is an 07 E92. What I found weird was that the car was coded for a 90Ah AGM battery while it had a lead acid battery in it.
I wasn't too familiar with coding so I replaced a lead acid with a lead acid battery.
I will take your advise and recode the car. Thanks for the input.

Does the CCA of the battery matter? Seems like the coding that would need to be done for a new battery is only concerned with the capacity (Ah) of the battery and whether or not it is AGM.

It's impossible to find a non-OEM battery that has anywhere near the CCA of the OEM battery. Capacities can get pretty close though (Duralast makes a 92Ah AGM battery).

Take the reserve capacity, divide by 2 then add 16. That will give you the Ah. It does matter if you're switching to/from AGM/lead acid. That value needs to be updated in VO and CAS.

The battery states the capacity so I do not need to calculate it.

Updating the CAS module and VO only seem to inform the car of the CAPACITY and TYPE (AGM vs. regular) of the battery. There does not seem to be anywhere to tell the car what the CCA is (or any other information about the battery). Therefore, does it matter if the CCA is different than OEM?

No, BMW only cares about the type and Ah.

BMWhat Battery Registration didn't work. :(

FYI - I took my car into my local BMW dealership yesterday to have the software updated (in an attempt to get it to take the AA tune it keeps rejecting. ). While my mechanic/friend did the flash ("under cover"), I asked him to check if the BMWhat app (after buying the add-on, of course) had properly registered the battery that I put in almost two months ago. It had NOT.

I contacted iVini/BMWhat and they sounded very disappointed and wanted me to try again but...it was too late. My friend had already done it for me at the shop.

So...you might want to have your BMWhat battery registration double-checked.

Tool32 and NCS Expert been around for a long time... Somewhat ancient, but does what it's designed to do.

How did you check if the battery had been "properly" registered?

Did you ever check your battery type after you did the original registering with the app? Wondering because if I use the app to check my battery it does show the new battery type that I coded/registered (now 90ah AGM, previously regular 90ah). But I guess this is no real validation that it was done correctly. I guess I can have my indie check it to see if shows as a recently registered 90ah AGM.

Anyone in WI that can register a battery for me?

Hi, new to the forum and BMW's. I just bought an 08 e90 335i 6mt on Monday, and my battery died on Wednesday. Dang. I ordered the BT cable but it will likely be a week before I see it. Is there anyone in the madison area that can reset the computer for me if I get a like battery? If so what is your favorite beer? Thanks.

I replaced my OEM 90ah 160RC 720CCA - H8-DLG 150RC 900CCA.

When registering the battery, the only input it asked for was "90ah". I thought I had to input CCA as well!

I know many people have used this H8-DLG and the car seems to start easier. Only issue was resetting passenger window open/close after disrupting the battery connection. Working fine now thanks to this thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...esn%27t+adjust

Is inputing my new CCA a critical step I missed???

I did get the "registered battery complete" tho...

Procedure to register new battery using INPA:

Step 1: select BODY from the left hand pop-up menu
Step 2: select POWER MODULE in the right hand list
Step 3: select ACTIVATE from the next menu
Step 4: Select ACTIVATE2 from the next menu
Step 5: Then select F7 - Register battery replacement. Almost instantly you get the message: "Register battery replacement Activated properly."[/QUOTE]

I'm hoping I can get some help registering a new OEM battery. A friend has a 2008 328iT and bought a new battery at the dealer, which is identical to the old battery.

Using Tool32 I tried to register the battery using the MSV80 data file, but get the following error:

ERROR_ECU_CONDITIONS_NOT_CORRECT_OR_REQUEST_SEQUEN CE_ERROR

I'll admit that most of my diagnostic and programming experience is the older BMWs (E46, E39, E53, etc) and I have very little experience with the E90. So I'm hoping that someone is able to point me in the right direction so I can get his new battery registered.
