How there hasn't been a class action lawsuit is beyond me really...after doing abit of research, its a buyers mkt as our cars have depreciated a good 3-4 K more than it normally would have over the past year....there are well over 300 335D's for sale across the country.
BMW has hurt every one of us and they either better figure out a way to fix this problem, extend our warranty too 100K, or figure out another way to compensate us...even people without carbon build up issues are being hurt financially. Unless something is eventually done, I perhaps, won't be buying a 9th BMW! |

I've been eyeing up the new Audi A3 sedan. Spent some time really looking it over at the Philly Auto show and was impressed. Similar dimensions to the E90. Very sporting with the S Line package. Comes with Quatro as an option. According to the sales rep it will be released with the TDI 4 pot motor this fall and may also be offered in stick shift.
It may not have the grunt of the 335d but it appears to be the closest replacement. |

I've gone and bought a 335d after a thorough research. Had to think long and hard about my willingness to modify a new to me car and really wanted something that I could just drive without tinkering with it. Had an '07 E92 335i that was problem free for me for 5 years (sans a single fuel pump replacement early on). But all cars have their problems and to me nothing just drove the same. Lexus does not compare, but is problem free mostly. Audis seem to have even more issues than BMW. I have swapped engines before, so here we go with the EGR/DPF delete and then I can enjoy my new ride.

I too read through all the negative comments about the 335d, decided that the benefits of the D outweigh the cost, and just bought a 2011 335d (taking delivery this Saturday in Dallas). I did leave my self a few thousand dollars to mod it out so I will be asking a few questions once I start to play with her.

If so, I would be down there right now politely explaining the partnership they entered with you when they sold you a car that they knew would have major problems. Look into an extended warranty. Become friends with your SA and let them know that you expect them to advocate for you when the car needs $5000 worth of cleaning. |

I plan to take it down to the BMW dealer soon before the warranty runs out and talk to them about it. I think extended warranties are pretty expensive though aren't they? One of the major selling points for me was I thought diesels are reliable and last long, surprised to hear different. ![]() Last edited by Masstar; 05-22-2014 at 04:05 PM.. |

Cork up the EGR cooler unless you live in an OBD inspect state. One guy here lives in one of those states and he clears the fault after every start up with a cable. Not identifying him to not "arm" the green police.

Did lots of research before buying my 11 and made sure I have CPO warranty for 7 years and 160k kms.
After that we'll see where the CBU issues are at and what options are available. I also owned at one point a TDI golf with a supposed CBU issue as well. 160k kms and ran like a dream. Enjoy the drive and hope BMW stands behind their cars even the troublesome ones. |

As BMW1983 stated DIRECT INJECTED cars more prone to CBU. You can add any tune JB is the cheapest and very good, as far as flashes RENNtech(which i have) Evolve or Ecotune(which BTW has the downpipe and coded out codes) are great and expensive. Its a matter of saying which wheels would look great on my car and will I stay with them till it breaks apart!! Good luck amigos and BIENVENUE to our group FEEL FREE to inquire at anyone here to assist you in any matter

my Golf R is 2.0T FSI direct injected. the new generation, the MKVII is in europe on the streets, it's dual injected, both direct and indirect, known as MPI, multi port injection. VAG is not bring the MPI version of the new 2.0T TSI to the USA for the first MY. This pertains to the A3, GTI, A4, TT. Also the sport models, including S3 and Golf R, and TT-S (300hp).... Originally I was going to get the S3 or the new Golf R... but I'll sit for a year or two, and hope for MPI. I have 28,600 on the 335D clock with a 100,000 extended warranty. I believe the time will run out first, I think the warranty clock started ticking feb 2011. So I guess feb 2016.

Tough call, in my opinion.
I have CBU and my car has been in the shop a lot the past year. The car is too much fun and I have yet to see a similar car offered with the combination of size, handling and performance of the diesel engine. To answer your question - if you can stomach your car being out of commission for a while and have another method of transportation then I'd say go for it. It's really a blast to drive. |

It is the fuel economy and range that is hard to find when you want the other three. ![]() I keep renting cars that get similar fuel economy (not range) and are nearly dangerously slow. ![]() |
