They were supplied with the catch can kit.

Mine appear to be cracking and swelling a bit:



The oil located around the lower elbow is due to the hose separating without clamps. As indicated by the picture, I have added clamps to prevent this from happening in the future.

I have ordered a kit but have yet to install. How long - in time or miles - did the elbow last before becoming swollen (per picture)?

Also, I am still under warranty. Will installing the catch can in any way jeopardize my warranty?

Hi, you were one of the very first ones with these elbows, I believe it has also been over one year for you. Since then the elbow dimensions have changed. So few people will see as much deformation. Not sure why you took them off...doubt they were leaking or anything.

These elbows are for automotive application and it is installed in a very high heat area. Even the factory BMW plastic airbox deforms.

I am still running the older elbow construction and it has been over 1 year/15k/4 climates. There are surface cracking and that is expected considering the high heat area. However, no leaks. I do not fiddle with the elbows or anything, simply just empty and clean can.

There is almost no other solution for the 335d fitting. If you have a better idea, please do share with this small community of 335d, as everyone is here to help each other.

The elbows are the biggest challenge for the 335d as there is almost no space to work with. So far this solution has been working and supporting it's function in the total kit.

Here a pic I took this morning of my elbows. This is over a year old now...(they are swelled a little and cracked a little, but that is okay). Not looking for aesthetics here.

The higher turbo psi would yield higher temperatures in that region and higher ccv pressure at full boost. Wondering if this had anything to do with the failure of that elbow.

I am still on stock setup with jbd only.

The OEM piece that these elbows replace cracked in 3 different places when I carefully removed it.

I had mine on since July 2014. I did 20k kms with them on. I did not pull them off, it just fell out when I pulled my Airbox out. It was being held in there by the hose.

There is also considerable amount of oil residue near the upper fitting.

It is the heat and pressure that is deforming them. At least that's my guess.

I'm looking for a new solution. If you have a better elbow I'm all for trying it out. But it better not fail again.

ADDW1. This name is clearly marked on can in first post's pictures. It's all over the net. 135 dug up the other parts that fit the can and onto parts of car in place of the 4.5" long ribbed rubber hose.

I just spent all weekend scrubbing my intake manifold from tar shit. I would think replacing those hoses every year or two would be a very small deal compared to scraping and cleaning the intake manifold and runners/head.

a drain hose from the catch can with a valve going to bottom of car would be nice too, maybe something that could be added/modified? then draining the oil from the catch can would be done at oil change time.

Would you mind showing some pictures of before and after? I would like to hear your cleaning technique. I have a spare intake and had entertained ideas of taking it to the car wash to blast it out followed by chemical soak and perhaps a 2nd round of car wash. This is intake isn't very dirty.

My idea was to have a cleaned one ready to go when my original one is pulled off so that car is only down for the day.

mine is cpmpletely leaking also ,...its been on for about 15k km...what should i do...scrap the whole thing put original hose or.......how dangerous is it to drive like this for a bit until i figure out what to do?..

I'll measure the ID on these tonight and try to find us a better solution. I think there is something a little higher grade that will hold up to the heat.

The ID is 1". I've got some silicon elbows heading my way to try out.

Once I validate all is well I'll post the parts list to procure. I have heater core hose right now till I get them in.

You won't need the "kit" just pick up the parts needed.
