Given the state of the rest of the team, he's a critical element. He can do it, I'm just not sure he will.
I'm getting woozy. He was a rookie in '08. He played in 30 MLB games before that. He had a great '08 and a great '10. Maybe '09 was just a sophomore slump or maybe it was more than that...we don't know but I think he parked the bong and put down the Cheetohs.

Yea his first years have a small sample size and in 09 it could certainly be the league adjusting to him... I never said that he didn't show promise, I think he shows incredible promise as he was their best player last year. I just need that consistently, as he's sort of all they have

Another thing to consider is league wide, he misses the 75% percentile for WAR of 3.7 with 3.5 WAR in 2010 assuming a 2.0 average, and averaged for his full seasons he's at 2.9 career WAR. All I'm saying is that so far this is a little disappointing, and I'd like to start seeing consistency and with that will come improvement.

this part is the hardest part with players on the cubs, hardly ever happens.. and when it does we seem to trade those players away

Soriano will not get that stick out his ass. He is who he is at this point....he will carry you for a few weeks and then disappear. At the end of the season, you will look up and he will post an unremarkable 30 HR/.260/.320/.490 season witha 2.2 RAR. He is not god awful and if he were your #6 hitter you'd be fine.

Sounds to me like you want to get your shots in while you can. Also sounds like you're the one who can't handle us... not the other way around. I've been a White Sox fan since I came out of the womb in 81. I was born and raise on the south side for several years as a child, then moved up to the north shore. I have grown up surrounded by Cubs fans who are more fans of getting drunk at Wrigley than the actual team and game being played. It's sad to say but a good portion of their fan base are really just fans of being trendy and up north, it's fairly trendy to be a Cubs fan.

Now with that being said, I have a tremendous amount of respect for guys I know like Brian, who are fans of the game of baseball 1st and actually have have an intelligent conversation about the Cubs and take things into perspective that they have been a huge failure in getting back to the PS since 03. He's loyal, just as loyal as I am to my Sox and to be honest, he probably is a bigger fan of the game than I am.

What I won't stand for is blind hatred towards either team for unjustified reasons. You don't like AJ, fine don't like him, but make sure you have an actual argument for it instead of just remembering the fight with Barrett where he didn't even throw a punch. You don't like Ozzie, sure, back it up with some facts... I'm wiling to listen. But don't just sit there and insult them with no supporting data - calling people an ignorant baboon without supporting it makes you look like the baboon and twice as ignorant. Hell I can't stand Zambrano but I can tell you why I think he is a cancer in the locker room and his violent behavior shouldn't be taken by the Cubs or MLB in general.

Bottom line, if you wanna successfully talk baseball or sports at all you need to be able to keep a level head about other teams and your team especially.

Has this been happening in the modern cubs history. I mean if anything I think the Cubs under Hendry have actually held on to players too long. Their problem is not trading consistent players away, it WAS signing guys to ridiculous contracts that took them well beyond their prime with no trade clauses and values that nobody else will take. This is made worse by the fact that they have not drafted and developed well enough to overcome.

Prospects are only good if you can develope them into helpful talent or trade them for useful talent. The Willis trade was not awful...Willis was only really truly a good pitcher for a short period of time before he became an innings eater. The Cubs received Clement and Alfonseca in that deal. I'd say it was pretty even...slight edge to the Marlins. The cubs needed an ML ready SP and a closer type.

Take Boston -

Varitek/Pedroia/Youk/Lowrie/Ellsbury/Lester/Buccholz/Papelbon/Bard regardless of how acquired all toiled in their minor league system for some period of time.

KC has Myers/Mongtygomer/Moustakas/Duffy and others poised to hit the ML soon. Will they go the route of Alex Gordon.

So its iffy and not all are successful. I think Kenny has done a great job of maximizing his farm system...not many of them my ever stick with the CWS, but they get the big league club something in return.
