Same thing happened to my friend Kamil. He switched to PSS10s, too.

I took it to my friend's shop in san bruno and he intially thought it was coming from the top end so we put it on the lift and he had his stethoscope or whatever it was and was listening to it while i revved the engine and his final diagnosis was rod knock in 6th cylinder.

Still driveable but i didnt want to risk taking it to the track. If it was an easy task I would have just checked to see if i could just replace the bearings but i heard dropping the oil pan is a pita?

Rod knock should be replacing the bearings through the oil pan if it is accessible.

For smog, there are plenty of places that will pass it for $200, not that I would know of any or recommend someone, just things I have heard in passing.

Ah, ok. That's pretty much the right way to do it.

Yeah, taking out the oil pan is a pain because the subframe cross member gets in the way. Even doing the pan gasket is pretty tough because after you lift the engine up as much as possible, you still have barely any clearance. I would support the engine on a bar and drop the front subframe, sway bar, and steering rack. I think Pelican has a DIY for that.

Can you just disconnect the motor mounts and lift the motor up with a cherry picker to do that?

Yeah, that's what I was talking about with the pan gasket. The transmission doesn't have too much room to pivot upwards, but it's enough to get the pan out with the oil pump. I'm trying to remember what it looks like underneath the car, but I want to say that the subframe and rack are going to be in the way if you're trying to get to the #6 cylinder.
